 uh - yeah, sorry
I did the same thing in the last game I played - didn't realize "next to" included ~10m away... Anyone know the exact spread of the pods to the beacon?

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Sometimes if you can put the beacon high up on a walkway over a flag it can be great, the beacon is relatively safe high up and your pods rain down on the flag.
Lately I've been placing the beacon extremely close to the flag I am attacking and with a good amount of success. I find I need to rush forward with my guys as part of the buddy rush to get close enough in relative safety. I may go support place the beacon and backoff, if beacon is destroyed I can resupply myself with a new beacon then placing it down to activate it.

People dont seem to look in the back of trucks, so its a good place for the SL to hide, every little thing that keeps the SL alive counts

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
when coming down in a pod on a beacon spawn, you can "break out" of the fall and shoot your pod far away. Try spinning really fast and holding W.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
This is the best route I have found into Gilbratar
Basically stay high on top of the walls (red routes) and avoid the enemy movements on the ground (green routes)
Defenders just dont seem to get on top of the walls !
- Muster your men on you here ready to go
- Up the ladder
- Run to the tower, then regroup and heal inside the tower
- Jump off the wall and immediatly through the crack in the wall
- Up the ladder in the tower to the wall top again
- If going for the ruins, you can jump off the end of the wall onto a container, then jump again onto the 1st floor of the ruins
- Drop your beacon on the flag but you stay on the 1st floor
- Hide on the north side on the 1st floor, if beacon is destroyed then I resupply myself with one as supplier class, so attack continues
- If going for EU base then you have a choice at top of wall here
- Jump off wall at 9 and dash to ladder here to get to the first floor, then in on flag
- A good position for the squad leader to hang back on top of wall and be the spawn point (do not put the beacon down here!)
- Theres a green box here that is good for the squad leader to hide behind and be the spawn point (do not put the beacon down here!). Be aware there are enemy spawn points at the back.
- In on the flag through southern tunnel on ground floor

Agreed. Now that icons don't show up on enemy beacons, the back of trucks works even better.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Dont do this because ammo/health pack ontop of beacon stops it working !!!
and since last patch the beacon doesnt work inside a Titan
3 crates hide beacon from view, they can still hear it, I dont know if the crates protect beacon from arty
Fire is for visual affect only, it doesnt cause health loss, people still avoid it through and the moving brighter colours help hide the beacon

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
I'm not sure what they did with the spawn beacon but the behavior has dramatically changed. Defenders can't use the beacon on their own titan but I've found that a beacon can be used on the enemy titan. Even inside the enemy titan, your squad members will still spawn in a drop pod. If it's your own titan, you can't spawn on the beacon. This should have been documented in the changelog.

Not quite true i did it today with a squad you just have to find and open area. Its really picky. Kind of a good tactic as it will have you squad drop down in behind the enemy trying to attack your titan.

Does it have to be on the outside of the titan? Because it doesn't work inside the titan anymore. I used to drop it by the big shield at the back of the core room.

No itll work inside the titan its just difficult. The only areas ive found so far are the cargo bay, or in the console rooms. I havent tried it but i bet itll work in the core room. Problem is these are usually all very bad spots for a defenders beakon. Nice big open areas and you cant place it next to walls.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
I started to use the recon drone exclusivly yesterday instead of the beacon on all maps it was really great specially on camp gibraltar where its critical to know where enemies are trying to sneak by or sneak up on you.
I saw three major benefits
1. You and you squad members see the enemy before they see you
2. People spawn on the SL which increases squad cohesion.
3. The SL stay more hidden and can more activily control the squad
The bad.
The SL have to stay hidden more so back to the BF2 SL job of staying alive.

Getting to that muster point (#1) is not that hard too. You skirt that quay wall to the north going west to east and then head straight south to that muster point.

I saw this video on the BF2142 wiki that really shows off a passive SL style. He pretty much used the recon drone and the support kit. He brings the sentry gun and pulse scanner. The pulse scanner is repetitive but he can get updates twice as fast. He sits back and watches the six while giving out orders and resupplying the squad. Pretty good leading method.
