Re: Squad Leader Tactics

I just received a new unlock and I've really been considering the recon drone as my next one. Either that or I will start advancing up the Engineer left side tree to the Pilum AVR. Any recommendations?

One of the main concerns I have with the recon drone is that it floats above your head, making you much more visible and instantly recognized as the squad leader. But then again, the in-game description suggests it can reveal hostiles that are even out of line-of-sight.

I've heard it been said that the recon drone is excellent when you're in a defensive position, so that's great because defence is a common occurrence here at TG. I have a very passive SL style as well, because I'm a terrible shooter so I leave that job to my squadmates who are always better than me.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics

The range isn't very far. It does work very well though. I used it quite a bit when I first got it, but not having the bacon is just such a huge loss that I haven't used it at all lately.

On defense it does give your squad an advantage. But if the flag goes grey having that bacon can really save yours.

Overall it doesn't complement my play style much because I get in there and mix it up with my squad. Putting a bacon out before I go charging in headlong is a necessity. The drone just puts you at a disadvantage, with it hovering over your head and all.

I could defnitely see it working well with a more passive SL though. Whatever you do, don't bother with the gun drone.

Hold on there, don't disparage the gun drone (!) as that thing has saved me numerous times and taken down people after I've died. I would, however, like to see it scan and fire with the efficiency of a sentry gun.

I will actually use the spawn beacon and recon drone inconjuction with each other. First, when I spawn, I will carry the spawn beacon, place it, then if I die I will respawn with the recon drone. Usually the spawn beacon will last enough time where I won't need to move it or can get it back on my next spawn.

I will use the sentry gun on the tighter maps where I need the extra fire power, say Berlin, Cerbere Landing.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics

yea the gun drone can be nice, just make sure you have a good medic to watch your ass in case you go down. Every little bit of firepower helps on infantry maps.

This is the video I mentioned. Most of the tips we already know but some of them are useful when creating Learn TG squads. I particularly like his ettiquette at inviting squadless players. Although, that's not really something we can do on our servers.

"Spot, spot, spot (press Q then left click while your reticule is over an enemy)!"

I have not tried this - what does pressing Q over an enemy do?

It's the commo rose to spot enemies. It'll mark what you see on the map. It's the old way of notifying players exactly where you saw an enemy (pre-Netbat). It's usually quicker than Netbat but requires a bit of button mashing.

I don't see the pulse scanner as completely necessary but I do realize the benefits of more updates from two scanners. It is faster to unlock the recon drone if you don't already have it.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics

He goes by w33t in the Total BF2142 forums and Orca in game. I'm actually going to add him to my buddy list and see if I can be graced with his SL'ing skills.
