Re: Squad Leader Tactics
I've had a problem lately getting my squads to stick together. They all seem too busy doing something to join the squad. I was finding this really annoying.
I thought to myself 'what can I do to get a random group of people who have just joined my squad to stick together?'
The solution I came up with was to state 'Squads Rules' in the countdown to map start. I started doing this last night, I was saying;
"My squad has two rules, one, always spawn on me I am the green dot , and two, we stick tightly together as a squad."
My tone of voice was authoritive. I was as polite as a person can be when 'laying down the law'.
Within the first 5 mins I restated my squad rules. Then maybe again latter in the game.
I did this for about 4 rounds and it worked well each time and there were less TG people in my squads than visitors.
4 rounds does not necessarily prove anything but the results were encouraging. I'll keep you posted on how it works out.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Stating the rules at the beginning of each round seemed to work very well Silver. It not only gets the newer players to stop 'lone-wolfining' it, but it also shows them that this is a serious squad, with structure. When they see that, for the most part, a member will realize that this squad's success odds are higher. Plus, it keeps everyone on the same page.
In management with any job, the goal is to clearly state what has to be done, and how it is to be done; which is exactly what you were doing last night!
Communication needs some work on - and when I get my voice back, I can actually help out. I found that some of the squad members needed encouragement to press 'V'!
A great night it was! Looking forward to all future games with TG.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Thanks for the feedback
You've got a mic, great !
As for squad members talking, I generally talk constantly and no-one can get a word in
I will be expanding my standard prep talk tonight to include a few statements of what I expect from my squad members and that will include verbal contact reports etc, it will be like a compressed SOPs manual in 40 seconds !

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
nice Silver! this is such a great idea! It wasn't really feasible in BF2 because of the long loading times. Now that 2142 has brought much shorter loading times, this is something we can all do as SL's!
Let us know what you come up with... informing your squad of the SOPs should be an SOP

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Great thread guys. I have been leading a lot of squads lately and I am still trying to learn, so some of these things have been a tremendous help. Thanks!

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
squadplay.com has more videos by Orca, and 2 from here (that's how I found the site) they serve to show moral more than tactics

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Just wanted to add that putting the squad leader beacon under or inside one of those conquest buildings causes soldiers to spawn podding down on the very top of the building, so if it's a sky-scraper (like on Fall of Berlin), you can spawn on the very top and reign rockets, nades .etc on unsuspecting dudes.. also is effective at bypassing huge defensive fronts because you can always jump off and parachute down from any side of the building, not to mention the sniping possibilities <<mouth watering>> :P

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
the best thing in the world is being part of a squad that has a mission and is all working together.
If you are on a titan map with 3 squads and either 1-2 squads are getting silos and 1 is defending you will most always win because the other team
had 1/3 of people attacking the titan, 1/3 defending and 1/3 getting silos (provided you don't suck or they aren't all rambo)
I always listen to the squad leader even if I don't agree because myself running around capping silos and running away doesn't help anybody, but a whole squad of people can do more than like 12 lone wolfs

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Funny if you place the beacon next to the SatTrack - the spinning part on top will make the Spawn Point blink in and out!
People get on roofs by beacons beeing placed close to the walls for one - but some also do "spinning". Rotating your pod as fast as you can can drift you away some serious distance. Some people even abuse this more by extremely pushing up their mouse sensitivity and are able to travel some serious distances this way.
Of course there always is the drone surving way, too.

Re: Squad Leader Tactics
Yea, forget about this - I was told what I wrote above by a friend and it is bogus (doesn't work). I tested it last night and sure enough, the beacon does NOT work if it is placed under an obstacle. I tried the technique of putting the beacon right up against a wall of the building too and no matter how much I spun and tried to force the pod close to the wall it wouldn't go, so I guess I still do not know how people get up on the roofs of those sky-scrapers... Also, what is the 'Drone surving way'?
