Support weap unlock Ganz HMG - was it all worth it?

Maybe I'm missing something, but this unlocked Support HMG is much worse than its default analogues. Projectile's deviation is pretty huge at a middle-long distances, relaxation time is pretty long(when you lay or sit down, or stopped fire), awkward zoom GUI. And NO significant benefits as compared with Shuko or Bianchi, at least I didn't notice them yesterday when played with unlock for a couple of rounds. Does anyone share my thoughts? I almost hadn't played Support in BF2 so I may lack exerience with this kit and its weaps.

Re: Support weap unlock Ganz HMG - was it all worth it?

I used the Ganz as a field upgrade so held onto it for a couple of rounds at the most before getting disconnected from server, bleh. I noticed that it hit harder than the standard mg but I felt like I ran out of ammo quicker.

Perhaps that's because I was able to kill my first target faster thus enabling me to acquire a second target and blast away on him. In other words with the standard mg i'd take down one target and duck back under cover. With the Ganz I can unload on target 1, make the kill, and move on to target 2, kill or just wound, in the time it took for a single kill with the standard mg. This is when i'll notice the ammo way low and/or the gun overheats.

On Titan with a sentry drone by my side I had a good time but I had to get used to the terrible zoom reticle. I dont know if it's that way with both factions but whichever faction I played those couple of rounds, be it PAC or EU, those stupid two vertical bars | and | drove me nuts as they impeded on my field of view while zoomed. I hadn't felt that with any other gun i'd toyed with.

I also vaguely recall a bit more kick on the Ganz but need to play with it some more to verify that.

    Cheers.

I don't like it either, I felt it was less accurate, and the sights are annoying as hell. I'll be sticking with the standard weapon.

It felt less accurate. I can't comment on its power because I could barely hit anything. I didn't enjoy using it at all and won't be unlocking it unless during a field upgrade.

I'm not a big fan either. The reload time is longer, steady time longer, and i'm not sure if that is worth the additional stopping power.
The standard bianchi works fine if you start it up and move the reticle towards the head.

Oh man, 1 unlock point lost.
I've tried it a bit more and found just one interesting thing that you need to make several bursts after which reticle becomes more concise and firing becomes much more accurate, so it's like you need some time to adjust you HMG by shooting. But it takes some time and in most situations you'll be dead before. So I see the only use for it in a squad sticking to teamplay action style when we could use some good aimed long suppressive fire. No arcade allowed.

I was thinking of going up that unlock tree for the HMG unlock (already did the EMP grenade) but after these comments I think I'll hold off on the support (since I already kill nicely with the standard gun) and go up the engie tree to get the dumb-fire rocket. I'm constantly finding myself going engie to try and hold off vehicles in close quarter situations around a flag. I need something to pack more punch, and I've heard this unlock can take anything out with a hit from the rear

there was a discussion about this on other forums and they came to the conclusion that if you are defending in a nice spot the Ganz is better. But if you are pushing on a flag default would be better.

Regular AT rocket has same damage as the engie AT unlock. Only difference is that the rail gun doesn't give a lockon tone. You can exactly same thing with an AT rocket if you do not alt-fire for the aiming reticle, and just fire blind.

Or aim with your SMG, then switch to the AT rocket without changing your aim. Same as in BF2.

It seems extremely odd and wrong for them to have the same damage. Did you get that information from a weapon damage list? The weapon discription, "the Koenig H-AVR launches armor-piercing fin stabilized projectiles that have proven far more effective armored targets than traditional warheads, especially against the weaker rear armor of tanks," definitely makes it sound like it does more damage, but I haven't seen any actual damage numbers.

i dont know exact numbers but i do know that it does more damage for a fact. I know this by how much of that lil red bar of health the thing has after i hit it.

Re: Support weap unlock Ganz HMG - was it all worth it?

Just in game experience. If I walk up to the back of the tank and fire a missile, the tank either starts on fire and blows seconds later, or blows up instantly (damaged tank).

Now in a non-rear shot.. Sure maybe it does more damage. But I bet if you counted how many shots vs how many rockets it took to take a tank out from each direction, the difference would not equate to more then 1 rocket.

So to me from game experience (I unlocked both sides of engineer and use all 3 weapons often since I need field upgrades for unlocked weapons) the only real practical difference between the rail gun and a rocket luncher is that rockets give a lock tone.

Both seem to blow tanks up just as good.

EDIT: Important additional difference. The rail guns gives no smoke trail, but the big flashy projectile is pretty easy to spot.

well i gonna agree with u but i think ea has software probs with ganz hmg gun system cause if u read the ganz description it says it has upgraded stabilzation and heat reduction system so it should stabilize faster and heat slower.

If I were to guess I would say they have swapped the accuracy and overheat between the two guns.
