Re: Taking a Titan Hallway - Discussion
Another fun thought (never tried, purely hypothetical and probably would never work BUT...); what if you had a group of like 4 assault guys and they each set their rockets about 5 units apart and then all fired down the hallway at once (just straight without hitting any walls), in theory the barrage should take out everyone and everything 3*4 = 12 rockets with a range of 20units to 40 units (which should roughly be the length of the hall to the console) and each having a 5 unit blast radius (roughly). At least, it would be fun to try and it would circumvent all these support guys who feel so so safe behind their beloved shields. hahaha <<evil laugh>>

Is the hallway long enough for the minimum distance to detonate?

Re: Taking a Titan Hallway - Discussion
I helped clear a hallway on a pub server with another guy. I was laying down and sent a barrage of rockets and another guy was tossing nades. We made it to the console and destroyed it.

Re: Taking a Titan Hallway - Discussion
Hmm interesting.
For the most part the action plan is sound, although a SL can take a slightly modified approach. Like a SL can decide to use smoke as general cover (say 2 in entrance and 2-4 more towards the middle and back - to confuse the enemy), toss in a couple of frags and emps 'nades, duck back for cover, let them blow. Right after the nades are thrown, 1-2 support guys rush in, go prone (under smoke) and provide suppressive (and covering) fire as the rest of the squad moves in (squad moves in after the audible explosion of their grenades).
Now under a hallway of smoke is where I see the stealthed recon having a good effect. Otherwise, he/she would be cannon fodder once he/she emerges from the smoke. (The cloak 'halo' cast over the gray smoke gives him/her away)
Of course this is completely my interpretation, and a plan of action never survives the first time around :PAcreo Aeneas

Best strategy I have found... stop assaulting the Titan. This takes coordination with the CO and other SLs but the best way to take a titan hallway that is heavily defended is to grab all the silos you can and ensure your titan is defended. Some of the defenders will get bored and start leaving and then that is the time to have an all-out assualt apply the methods outlined above.

Kind of unethical but what also works is getting a friend on the other side and just view players on that team who are in the titan and relay that info (IM/chat) to you (SL/CO) to give you a better decision making ability as to when and where to attack the consoles/core/which hallway to take and what are the enemy numbers and types in that hallway.

Re: Taking a Titan Hallway - Discussion
I don't think you can. I've tried while seeding the titan server unless you can't when there isn't a game in progress. There was a stat padder on our server that tried doing it to end the game faster. It didn't seem to do anything so he started TK'ing everybody.
Lately, I haven't seen too many problems with attacking titan hallways. The grenade rushes seem to be most effective. Although, not too many TG'ers are playing titan these days so it's hard to say if players are getting better at attacking.

Re: Taking a Titan Hallway - Discussion
I've read someone on total2142 that you can blow your own titan consoles, never really tried it myself.
I've been in situations where a whole squad is defending one of the bottom corridors and it was impenatrible. Two support guys prone, with two gun drones, with two medics behind them with rockets, and a recon guy up more with a supply crate + APM mines + grenades. You could only kill the recon and support guys, but then the medics would kill you and revive (They also had their squad beacon at the console too).

Re: Taking a Titan Hallway - Discussion
Yea that sounds like a pretty solid defense - obviously no defense in this game is 'impenetrable' (spelling), BUT I have also come across defenses that were just too strong compared to how unorganized the assault was (every time I attack a Titan I see guys just running into the hallway alone without waiting for any friends - stupid). Also, just thought I would mention, there was talk earlier in this thread about using smoke grenades to help with the forward rush and it is logical and sounds like it should work, but it doesn't - the flux of bullets through the hallway is just too great, the defenders just have to keep nailing the back end of the wall and they are going to hit anyway who dares to enter the entrance of the hallway - basically smoke grenades are crap when used to try to rush a hallway (they are only good when trying to run across an open space in a conquest map or something).

Re: Taking a Titan Hallway - Discussion
I know, one time in another server me and my SL had to resort to suicide tactic. The entire team act like a group of incoherent idiots save for me and my SL who actually use the mic and work together. The PC team work very well in hallway defending, to the point of near impenetrable. They have multi layers of C4, AMPs, 2 sentry guns, medics and supports with shields.
So my SL asked me to make the ultimate sacrifice. He would drop smoke then rocket them with airbursts and I charge in with my camo to C4 the console. Work like a charm with me took out the console, 4 guys and myself in the process. But that was after we lost nearly a conquest worth of men before the 3rd console. Sometimes, I wish we can put C4 on men like Red Faction 1, screw EA and their rated PG content. Imagine the rise of suicide squads and 'martyrdom clans' emerged from that possibility!!!
