Specialized Squads?

Hello all,

Scanning the forums it's quite obvious that TG made specialized squads for BF2. Where each squad focused on a paticular objective. Like Armor, Recon, etc.

With the 'class' reduction in 2142, I'm not sure how viable a specialized squad would be. However, I was curious if we are going to create the same thing with 2142?

I understand that with the changes from BF2 to 2142 that having a squad comprised soley of snipers, or armor experts isn't a great idea, but having a squad that consistantly squads up ingame will make that squad much more effictive. From knowing which unlocks each squad member has, to each person's general tactics. It would get to the point that very few words need to be exchanged between squad members to fulfill an objective given by the CO or SL.

Also, this would create some nice friendly rivalry between squads if/when we have a TG password night. (Which I have seen brought up, but never seen if it was going to be a go or not.)

On a side note, I've been thinking HARD about grabbing a small 30 slot server to use for myself, which I would GLADLY use for TG only battles. Be it for bragging rights between TGers, or to use to train the incomming flow of raw recruits. (Which includes myself)

(If I've read things correctly..you can only have a private password server if it's unranked, if I'm wrong in this, please correct me. If so, that would mean my private server would be unranked but that would still be a good place, at the very least, to train new recruits)

Re: Specialized Squads?

I occasionally see a specialized squad. But it's not the norm for 2142. I think people are still getting in the teamwork mode of play and working out the bugs.

Re: Specialized Squads?

Well I think you are talking about two different things when you say "specialized squad." We used the term to describe air asset squads and every now and then you'd see a "sniper" squad or an "commander asset destruction" squad.

The problem with air asset squads is the respawn time for them in 2142 is high. You sit around a lot more than you did in BF2 (almost not at all). So this turns players off to the idea.

I'd like to see a titan corridor defense/offense squad...

Personally I'm typically armed with my shotgun rounds and rockets and when a support guy puts down a supply box... yeah... can you say constant rocket spam and plenty of grenades get tossed...

I made something like 18 kills while defending console 1 with Exploding Silver with a supply crate. They never made it in any further then the mid way point. What fun

Re: Specialized Squads?

Here are my suggestions for Titan squads:

Silo Attack
This is the squad that goes after the silos that are taken by the other team.
2xAssault with medic kit.
1xSupport
1xEngineer
It's important to try and always approach the silo with an armor or 2 (apc, tank, walker)

The engi repairs the vehicles, the assaults and support take out infantry.

Silo defense:
1x Engineer (motions mines are important)
1x Recon (apm and RDX are important)
1x Support (hold strategic entrances and resupplies the mines and explosives
1x Assault (revives, heals and helps against infantry)

Here you basically put motion mines all over the possible entry spots, APM on infantry entrances and RDX the whole silo, if anyone passes te front line = blow.

Titan Defense

This is very important and easy, but noone does it... Only really takes 6 people to defend the whole titan.

3xSupport - 2 at the vents with a sentry gun. As soon as someone drops in you shoot and they're dead. The 3d will be on the ground floor resupplying the Recons
1x Assault - Helps the 2 recons assisting to shoot people coming in and healing/reviving eventual casualities
2x Recon - Must have the lambert and apm mines. One recon on each door, placing APMs on them. If people pass through the apm, they will have the be crouching or prone, so use that and shoot people coming in with the support or assault.

Titan Defense Squad

2x Support Shield Wall and Sentry gun

4x Assualt Defeb and Rockets

Split them up 1 support 2 assualt on both long corridors.

Have one assualt spam rockets when he goes to reload the other spams. Support guy is there incase anyone gets lucky enough to get through.

Re: Specialized Squads?

How about a full air transport of engies. Fly in low over an armored target (preferably not a mech because of its anti-air capabilities) and have the engineers not on the turrets spam their motion mines. Throw in a support guy and you can rinse and repeat as needed. And I also believe its possible to do inflight repairs with an engineer, but not sure on that one.

A recon squad with everyone having active camouflage sounds cool, but I suppose its a lot easier to just have the squad leader infiltrate with active camo, then have everyone spawn on him.

Re: Specialized Squads?

You can repair while in the transport if you sit in the F4 or F5 positions, and you only need 2 engies to drop mines (you can only get 2 at a time doing it anyway), but I think it's too risky... If a walker EMPs you you're dead...

Re: Specialized Squads?

Hi there. I'm new, as you can see... no flashy Avatar, and a '1' in the post count. Before i say what I came to, let me start by actually saying that it looks like you guys run a tight ship. I'm 22, and have been gaming for well more than 1/2 of it, and its AWESOME to that some people are interested in the strategy of the game. That is, opposed to the 'run and gun' method of raking in points.

Anyway, I only mention this because it was brought up about Titan Defense. AND I plan on referencing what I say here in another thread I will post shortly about Titan Defense.

I find it easier to defend a titan once one side has already been destroyed. (ie Easier to defend 1 & 3 when 2 & 4 are cooked). With this accomplished, you can have 1-2 recons (depending on effectiveness of support in corridor) running APM straffing runs through the Cargo Bay.

Just for you guys to think about.

Re: Specialized Squads?

Hey welcome to TG chaf3d, make sure you read the rules and SOP's and we're good to go!

Yea, generally it is easier to hold only 1 or 2 hallways and usually squads will only concentrate on defending one of them. With a beacon and a varied equipment deployment holding the hallway is fairly easy, especially if there are no coordinated attempts on your hallway and just rag-tag trying to break through.

Enjoy your stay, cya around.

I would welcome the chance to develop some familiarity with a few fellow TG members and work with them to become a well-balanced unit. Knowing your squad-mates’ strengths, weaknesses, and style of play does go a long way to being an effective team. Furthermore, consistently working together builds cohesion and comradery, some of the reasons I joined TG.

That is not to say I do not enjoy joining a squad comprised of random TG members and non-members, as my experience playing in Learn TG squads is what prompted me to become a Supporting Member. Nor do I believe a specialized squad needs to be a highly structured group, rather a few members who simply play together on a consistent basis in an effort to develop a better squad and build friendships. I have seen what a few of the TG in-house unit members can do together as a squad, such as E1st on the Fall of Berlin map, and would enjoy trying to accomplish the same with others.

If anyone has any interest in playing together on a regular basis and possibly forming a persistent squad, please let me know.

Post Re: Specialized Squads?

I think it is pretty much agreed then that a team of 4 - 6 can defend a Titan by themselves.

Using our server as an example, and erring on the side of caution, that gives you:
48 Total
46 because of supporting member scripts
23 per side
1 = Commander, 22 per side remaining
6 = Titan Defense Squad, 16 P/S/R
12 = Titan Assault Squad, 4 P/S/R
4 = Silo Assault Squad, 0 P/S/R

You will constantly have to move your Silo squad from one to another, and you stand no chance of holding any silo except the one your 4 man squad is on and that is hopeful at best. Not knocking anyones strategy, just putting it on the table. This assumes that we also have 23 troops with TG mindset per side, we're not there yet, but we're getting close. By the way welcome to the new guys, especially you supporting members. It can not be said enough that you are the reason we exist! You've got my thanks!

Re: Specialized Squads?

I know most Specialized Squads mention so far have been about titan mode but lets get some other ideas in here. My favorite squad is what i like to call fast attack. I usually do this on the larger armour heavy maps. Ill take my squad and grab one of the undefended flags. Mine it, man the turrents, and set up a fall back squad beacon and try to hold the flag as long as possible. This usually pulls off some of the heat on the major flags. When ever we finally do lose the flag, (which happens 90 % of the time) will go back to the undefendable and try at a diffrent flag. I like doing this type of squad because it is my belief it keeps the enemy of balance.

Once fighting on the Titan starts, a 3 to 4 man squad does a reasonable job of holding 2 silos. I've seen it happening. Theoretically, a bigger squad can hold three, but I've never seen that happening.

One guy watching each silo, and everybody else in mobile reserve. Using armor and AFVs.

A titan (with its own guns) can overwatch those same three silos.

Yes, a silo can be attacked by a full squad, and will probably be lost, but that means you tie up 6 of them to deal with one of you.

It IS! I was in a squad last week (4 dudes total) and we all went Camo/Lambert and ran around together on a conquest map - it was pretty fun all using knifes at one point.. I think the average number of knife kills on that round for each of us was like 8-10.. when you have one camo'ed recon run up to you and try to knife its easy to take him out but when you just see 4-5 blurs running around you most people tended to just sprint away (fast) and then we just stopped and pulled out Lambert and had a meat grinding session.
