Help Your Squad Leader Help You
Ok this post is all on squad communication. Here recently ive been sl'ing a lot and i find that while there isnt a lack of commnication in tg squads its not enough nor focused enough.
1. First and formost is squad deaths. Spaming the I'm Dead Button is not enough. Say over voip im down and then spam it. This will go a long way twards helping our medics out.
2. Spot Spot Spot I love this feature about battlefield and think its the number one thing battlefield 2 & 2142 have over other games.
3. Known targets that you cant spot. Ok if you know theres a bad guy around the corner let the sqaud know, But dont say hes "over there". Your buddies arnt always looking in the direction you are so USE THE COMPASS when calling targets.
4 Spawning. Pls by all means if the beacons donw let me know. If I am the beacon and have put myself in a bad spot were you can't spawn let me know.
Ok thats all i have so far pls and your input and comment.
Note to reader: I suck at grammer, spelling and usuage and was eating dinner will righting this post so it has in no way been proof read

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
Yes, definitely spot even if you have already spotted it on Netbat. I respond to the spotted messages and check the mini-map for what was spotted. If it just shows up on Netbat behind my position, I might not realize there's a tank rolling up behind me.
Spawn beacons should be checked by SL's after being placed. I'm getting into the habit of it. It'll save 10-30 seconds depending how far you've moved from a bad beacon drop.

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
In working for the Squad Leader badges, i'm finding I'm using myself as the squad spawn point, and using the recon drone more. I've also bee experiemnting with the Support infantry finder tool. That thing is pretty handy, but 2 things bother me.
1) It doesn't trace with the guy, so it tells you hes there.. somewhere.
2) People in my squad apperantly don't know what going on when its being used (after an explanation) and they run the the red square, where he isn't anymore and i get a lot of the (wtf EA this and so on(on pub servers, not the TG ones)).
But in all, rather than having a static squad spawn (especially after moving to another objective) i'd rather have the added recon abilities. All the forces of Evil need to Succeed is for enough Good men to do nothing.

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
Another way to help your Squad Leader is to quickly let him or her know which direction you are watching, when advancing on an objective as a group or digging in to defend a position. A simple, “I’ll cover the second floor” can go a long way in helping your Squad Leader ensure all your flanks are secure. As a Squad Leader, I have noticed many of my squads’ advances have been thwarted by one or two enemy soldiers attacking our rear, since we had focused all our attention forward. These massacres could have been avoided with a quick, “Watching our back, Squad Leader” or “Last one in formation check the rear, please.”
The same can be said of Squad Leaders communicating with their Commanders. On a few occasions, I have noticed enemy forces moving toward the rear and been unable to break contact and pursue them. A quick mention to the Commander that an air transport or squad is moving toward another position has allowed him or her to redirect other squads to that area and make sure the base stays under our control.

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
I know it's time to take a few days off from battlefield when I'm playing other games and my keep trying to reach for the Q key. Even on console games; I know it's not there, but my stupid brain keeps telling me to go for it. [/derail]
Calling out what you see is incredibly important, and you can't just say "hey, there's a guy." A simplified form of the Army's SALUTE report is a good guide.
Size - how many do you see?
Activity - not essential, but if you see them laying mines, or they're going to pass without seeing you
Location - use absolutes (north vs. "over there"), unless you're talking to an individual ("Jim Bob, watch out behind you"). The more descriptive the better.
Uniform/unit - rarely needed, but it could be important if you notice prominent SL's, or in a scrim setting.
Time - not important.
Equipment - vehicles, explosives, drones, etc.
It's just a guide to help remember the most important intel items, it doesn't have to be complex.
"2 infantry and a tank to the west on the road; they're heading south and haven't seen us."
Combine that with a spot and your squad's in great shape.

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
Here's another Acronym thingy full of words and advice and stuff...
Find your role within the squad and stick to it.
Utilize the Q-key
Be active on comms
Always hold your spawn at the start of a round
Remember your SL's orders
or you might end up...
Detracting from your squad's effectiveness
Engaging the enemy at a disadvantage
Allowing squadmates to get killed because you didn't communicate
Delaying your team's victory
Anywhoo...those are just my
Words

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
This is noted down in our SOP's, but I wanted to draw attention again to radio discipline.
Whoever is in charge should have priority on the radio channel - so if the Commander is talking, SL's cut the chatter (and cut your squad's chatter) to listen. Squad members, if your SL is talking, instantly cease your communication so that you're prepared to receive orders or critical situation updates. Resume any contact reports or requests after the SL is finished.
SL's - this doesn't mean you get to run over your squad members however
. They may start considering whether a TK punish is a fair price to pay! It's usually more beneficial to let your members finish any contact or situation reports before you start talking. Typically, I find that the things that SL has to say are less time-sensitive than front-line reports from the people doing the shooting.

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
please use the voip, and for god sakes set your threshold to where people can hear you. Get into a local server and play with it a bit, I hate when you hear garbled mess over the voip because they guy has his threshold set to where you can only hear half of what he is saying.
A good idea is to get a set of headphones with a mic attached. That way you can have it close to your mouth when you speak so we can hear everything you say and not your game roaring in the background. Don't plug the headphones into the sound output, just the mic input, so you can use your speakers and your mic independently

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
Good observation, perkins. It seems that there are a few things that frustrate you when you're playing on other servers - you'll feel right at home here

Definitely hop on our server the next chance you get (search for servers with Tacticalgamer.com in them). One of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) we have here is the Radio Check. As soon as you sign on, do your radio check and your squadmates will let you know how your mic sounds. You can then make any required adjustments. For the full scoop on our SOP's and how we promote good teamplay, visit the link in my signature.

Re: Help Your Squad Leader Help You
One of my favorite tactics as SL is to have my squad assault the front line as loudly as possible, lots of rockets and wild gunfire, while I stealth past on the other side and carrying a beacon. Then I wait just outside the range of a cap point well behind the front line, gather my WHOLE squad to me, and we all step out to cap the flag in seconds. Rinse and repeat at the next spot.
