I also max the pitch and yaw....seems to give me sharper turns and faster control.....and thank Gawd someone finally put a pic up to show pilots where they need to line up the tv bomb guy>>>>>>good stuff, we should make it required reading for pilots!!!!

You've heard of Tier 1 and Seal team Six right?
Were not those guys....were the 16TH.

yeah, I just dug it up while I was googling, best guide I've read on the web for gunship flight, personally, I use a mouse and keyboard, I just bump up the dpi when I'm in vehicles.
Also, it isn't so hard to pull up out of being upside down. Somehow- this may have been a bug- I successfully managed to fly upside down, 20m off the ground, for a good 100m or so, and then flip out of it. I have no idea how, but It made me feel like an awesome pilot until some young(er) whipper shnapper shot me down..-.-

hehe, I'm kind of like a mini-Eroak, except I don't have a clue about how to fly tactically..but hey, I can do tricks!

I'm one of those goofy guys that plays at a very high sensitivity. I've upped it all up to 10 on sens, yaw, and pitch. Its payed off very well using a joystick in being able to pull out of some incredibly steep dives and risking maneuvers. Fly with me, you'll probably be scared we're gonna die about 90% of the time.

With the joystick, I can pull off some stuff not normally possible it seems. You can pull out of a really really steep dive faster or right yourself a tad bit easier I find. Plus, you can get a much tighter control over turns and keep your turns very sharp and continuous without having to continuously mouse over.

lol, I smell a new contest brewing! Who can get their passengers more sick/scared. Last night, Ains was saying over VoIP, "Uh, Anospa, what are you doing... PULL UP!" "Oh, we're not low enough?" Heh, good times.

I thought this to be true. I had once gotten out of an inversion, by accident, but thought that it was fluke. Until this sunday, when I was lucky enough to gun for the best pilot Ive ever seen. He was pulling barrell rolls like it was nobodys business, going straight up, tracking his targets while upside down, never lost view of a target, think his name was Ghost Sniper or something like that... I was so impressed, mainly with being able to go upside down and barrell roll.

Re: Gunship Flight - any tips?

Why does everyone seem to think that flying upside down is so hard, to me it is really simple. The physics engine in 2142, through some flaw, allows you to fly upside down with either gunship, so long as that your nose is pointed at a 45 degree or so angle at the sky. Like this:

    bottom of gunship------> / <------top of gunship
The nose can be pointed a bit more towards the horizon rather than straight up than my, heh, "diagram" suggests, but you get the point.
I figured this out by watching a few videos on youtube by a pilot named Crazy_Horze, and his "AFeX^" clan. Just type in "BF2142 AFEX Gunship" and you'll come up with a bunch of movies. The move is pretty popular among the clan so you can see it in about any movie you click on.

As for controls, all of the good pilots I've flown with (including some on the top 50 in the world: ACEofSKIES and Stuntcok), swear by the mouse/keyboard combo, and sensitivity/yaw/pitch maxed.

    Playing BF2142 as:

    -{SXGr}- J0KerRr

    -{SXGr}- x^DeTeR

I'm always open for tips, tutorials and training in the gunship while online, just ask :)

Currently taking a break from MW2, but when I play its as:

    eXileD// DeTeR

Even if you don't consider that I only have 7 days played in the gunship I'm one of the best pilots in the game

I will always accept a 1v1, friendly or not

I think my favorite thing about M + K is that I can tap W & S easily, with a gamepad or a joystick it's not quite there yet.
I've been flying with a 360 controller recently, it's so fun! I tried going back to the mouse and keyboard and it felt weird. Flying the transport is a lot easier for me with the gamepad, with the mouse it was too easy to over-correct and push the mouse too far forwards or back in a hot zone, which got me killed.

I've been flying the transport in 3rd person, it's a lot of fun. Landing is a lot easier, I find that if I hold S (or whatever key you use to slow down) to land the transport, it doesn't get damaged at all most of the time.

And in the gunship I find that I can go inverted at 40-50 altitude and still flip out of it, this was hard to do with the mouse and keyboard, but it's no problem with the gamepad.
I've had gunners bail out because they thought we were going to die.

Ha, inverted at 40-50 is incredibly hard/impossible to get out of with the M+K, its true. You must have started the loop right as you were taking off!
Another useful tactic that I've found is that if you are piloting without a gunner (You shouldn't really be doing this anyways, its for if your gunner bails or leaves the game or something), you can quickly switch to the gunner's position and TVM (TV Missile) a target, then switch back to pilot quickly and hit them with missiles to finish them off.
By the way, I cannot overemphasize the importance of the word "quickly" in the above sentence. The entire thing should take no more than 2-3 seconds including the flight time of the TVM.
Another thing I've noticed about the TVM is that when most gunners are trying to hit a target, they overcorrect themselves just before impact. Something most people do not know is this: The missile does not have to be a direct hit. Those curving lines on either side of the screen are there to mark that if your target is hit inside those lines, it will be "hit". The shot does not have to be directly on, which is useful for TV-ing air transports and enemy gunships.

Sorry for the double-post, but I just found a video on Google Video that illustrates the tactic I was trying to tell:

    Good video, hope it helps.

I think gunship soloing (if that is what you are describing) would be frowned upon and discouraged on the TG server because it deters teamwork between the pilot and the gunner. There is no doubt, the best gunship pilots employ soloing. You can just look at the leader board for gunship stats and see the well-known solo flyers at the top. I rarely see these pilots on the TG server and that is most in part to its conquest only nature. I think if more solo gunship flyers did play on the TG server, soloing would become a topic of debate and whether that is a proper use for the gunship asset. So far this has not happened.

I don't think solong is by any means a good "teamwork" tactic, On TG i just think it might be useful if someone employed it as a kind of fallback tactic, if they were in the right position to use it, and the pilot's missile's weren't enough to save them (i.e. Your gunner bails, and lands near an enemy walker, you TV the walker, then hit it with pilot's missiles and rescue the gunner).

I solo-TV on the TG server when I don't have a gunner. I enquired with the admins before doing so, who told me that there is no solid rule with this, and it's at an admins' discretion in a round over whether this tactic should be stopped.

People switch seats in every vehicle in the game, I don't see why gunships should be any different.

It's not always a very useful tactic anyway. To get an accurate shot you need to guide the missile all the way in, which is quite a long time to be unaware of enemy gunships.
