    No beacon? Get over it!

I'm sick and tired of the people that join my squad and go "Where's the beacon, put down a beacon, do you have a beacon, why aren't you using the becon, etc...". Now if the little drone flying over my head wasn't enough to convince you that I don't use a beacon, look at the squad screen and you can tell what SL unlock I'm using next to my name.

Most players are obsessed with the beacon. I don't know why, but they are. Pretty much the only time I used it was to get my SL badges (yay, I got a 1000 point badge because I encouraged my squad to die and respawn a lot). I'm not trying to bash any SL who wants to use it, I just don't like my squad telling me that I have to use it.

Actually, there is one good thing I can say about the beacon. That is running into an enemy squad using one, because we proceed to kill them over and over until we get bored and decide to blow it up.

Amen. I believe the information the drone provides is much more superior, if the SL can use it. Just after the drone spots enemy positions SLs can spot a point of weakness and use it and deploy the squad from that weak side.

Some people think beacon is the only SL unlock? Plus please take care of the drone loving SLs and keep him up. It is superior to the beacon in a lot of ways.

Fun, fun and more fun. But do not be selfish. Provide some fun and you will receive some fun.

Yea someone kept being passive agressivie with me about that issue to. "Hey, do you have a beacon?" Could you just put one down somewhere around the flag we are attacking?

Like I don't know how to use the beacon or something. I've found through SLing over and over again that putting down the beacon is sometimes the wrong decision. Everyone knows what beacons are, and they kill them. Alot of times you are making your spawn point overly vulnerable by putting one of them down.

Without the beacon down, the spawn point is mobile. Oh and has guns and rockets and stuff.

I reallt don't see what the fuse is about. About 70 % of the 2142 crowd has played bf2 were was the beacon then. Besides Having to spawn off the squad leader makes the squad more taticle flexible, and the added fact that you have to keep your sl alive promotes teamwork.

I've been using the beacon less & less and last night on Berlin I only point it down once the whole map. I find squad members spawning on me to be better in general.

I guess that people asking for the beacon is a pubbie's habit to deal with random pubbie SLs. They will soon learn that our SLers known what they are doing.

Re: No beacon? Get over it!

People ask for a beacon because they're used to some idiot SL running in pell-mell and getting himself killed needlessly. They also ask for it because they don't trust their squaddies to be smart and defib the SL. It's a new feature from BF2...it was the new shiny toy when 2142 came out and people got used to having it around.
Now that we're beginning to wisen up to how the game is affected by beacons, we have noticed that the beacon is not always the answer.

After playing on the TG server for awhile, it's usually more of an inconvenience to have to spawn in on the beacon and then hoof it over to where the SL and squadmates are. Even worse, when the beacon is deployed & destroyed...then you're having to listen to everyone repeatedly tell the SL "beacon down" until he respawns or resupplies.

Yes, there are maps and occasions where a beacon is quite useful...but for people to expect the SL to take it by default is just plain dumb.

Re: No beacon? Get over it!

I agree. There are certain maps where a beacon can be crucial... i think those maps where there's a lot of armor around and the squad has to be split up. If the SL dies then, you're going to have to spend a minute getting back.

But ordinarily, a recon droid mixed with spawning on the SL is a far more effective -- and versatile -- tactic. If the SL knows what he's doing (never gets far away from someone who can revive him) then it works out better that way.

Re: No beacon? Get over it!

Imo on maps like Berlin and Gib where you can spend half to the whole round trying to get behind enemy lines to cap the back flags and turn the tide the beacon is crucial. Finally getting back there and dying without a beacon sucks imo.

On servers other than TG where people are disorganized (i have a few favorites lol) i like to use the beacon to pod onto rooftops for a good sniper perch, since everyone is running around getting slaugtered and not paying attention i can rack up my sniper kills fairly comfortably. And pod back onto the roof if i do get detected.

But on a server like TG i agree the other squad unlocks can be very useful if not more so in certain situations.

I like using the beacon because I die a lot. Even if I stay way back behind cratess someone will come around and kill me. But the best part about using the drone is jumping on top of it and flying up onto buildings. It's like being the Silver Surfer or something.

I find some maps are "Beacon friendly" and some are not. I don't like to SL much, So I put my trust in my SL and do as he says. If we spawn on a beacon, Then I do. If he uses a drone, then I try and Ultrablue medic the SL.
