Same here, I remapped C and X for the purpose of Pistol and Knife. My middle mouse button is for my main gun.

Back on topic: Yes, please put away the knife. Although FKD shot me in my face the other day trying to be sneaky with a knife. *blush*

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

Really funny post, Bom. I've gotta admit in the early days of playing 2142 I was a bit guilty of taking my knife out too early and often (ended up with me dead most times - just like fatkid o'death said below).

I'd advise would be knifers to at minimum let your squad know you are going for the knife kill (if you are totally unable to restrain yourself). Then, Baby Jesus may only just weep a little when it goes to shizzle.

BTW, Bom: I see you have about the same amount of unique knife kills as me (165-168). Did any solicit tears from the tiny messiah? I know some of mine did.

hehe, most of my knife kills come from circumstance and playing on non-TG servers, where the quality of players is much lower and therefore present many more opportunities. I also know where Snipers and Support gunners like to camp.

On TG servers, I pass up on the tag 90% of the time in favour of the rifle kill ... unless it's someone on my buddy list

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

I have about 20 knife kills. So I don't resort to this at all.

I will if its a sniper nest (hehe, I got John's tags this way) There has to 2+ guys there not watching me. I hit 1 take the support out, hit 3 and rifle the sniper as hes wondering why is teamate is dead. If it's one sniper, I'll handgun it if I have time so I dont have to waste a rifle clip on a easy kill. I Conserve ammo, I like to stay alive long.

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

I didn't read thread much but... More often then not a gun kill is easier than a knife. The only time I use a knife if when I only have 2 clips left (One in gun). I need to conserve Ammo.

Save those tickets by using your rifles in the hot zones.
Your BF2 knifing video is still making the rounds on Google Video.

I fondly remember Dark Viper's knifing video from BF2. Unfortunately, the link in the old post doesn't seem to want to work for me. I suppose I can only reach back into my memories to recover Munchkin's now infamous:

"Noooooooooooo!"

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

man, after reading these posts, i feel like a putts. I'm a knifer. Its damn fun. I've taken flags using the knife. Had a bad day? KNIFE SOMEONE!

My favourite situation is when 2-3 were on the church flag on Cerbere Landing. I was hiding out in the bush just east of the flag. It was my team's flag, and these three came to cap it. If I had fired, I fgiured they'd hone in on my rifle fire. SO i snuck up behind one at a time, and killed them, and didn't lose the flag.

Probably should have used my main weapon, but I didn't. It was WAY to much fun to knife all three and not lose the flag. I think I even went and grabbed another beer after that.

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

There are 2 times I use the knife.

1. I come up behind a zoomed in sniper or stupid support. If I miss just ONCE with the knife, I pull out the pistol and cap him though.

2. I'm trying to get my knife badge on a non-TG server.

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

if i see a sniper zoomed in, i'll use it, but since I use a nostromo speedpad, and the knife isn't programmed to that, it takes me a long time (relatively) to get out my knife, so I very rarely use it unless i know i can get at least one kill.

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

One of my fondest knifing memories was on the TG server. I was running when I saw someone approach me from behind. I pulled out my knife then quickly remembered how much I stink in knife fights. He pulled out his knife and at the same time I switched back to my rifle and filled him up with lead. He wasn't too happy about that.

Anyone know the limits of the knife attack so I can avoid getting picked off by a knife kill when I reload?

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

It's much more effective to use the knife offensively IF you have NOT setup your soldier with extra body armor. With heavy armor you are slow and it will be tough to knife someone, without the armor you can run circles around your enemy and most of the time if you guys are really close even with a machine gun it's hard to keep hitting you until he is reloading and then he is yours. Also, a good tactic is to let yourself be seen and duck around a corner and lob a grenade, usually people will switch to their grenade, switch to your knife and wait and listen for the character to say 'throwing grenade!' or the russian equivalent, THEN rush out at the guy with your knife and you will find a helpless victum standing still in the motion of throwing a grenade - it's usually a very suave way to get a knife kill.

Re: Put Your Knife Away and Take The Kill

I've been in a cranky mood lately so I've been knifing people a bit more. I'm not trying to insult anyone so if I've picked up your tags lately I just want you to know I wasn't trying to harsh on you.
