    Smoke Grenades

I've heard people saying their useless but... They arn't that bad...
Now maybe you have seen real smoke grenades or a game with better smoke grenades... but hear me out please. I'm going to counter some issues that people put up or a couple of tactics that could be used... I've only had smoke grenades as field unlock but I wonder if I should get permanent.

    1.Blind Fire
Problem - People blind fire into smoke!
Answer - Fire off two on both ways!

When I'm a medic (most common use for assault), I can throw smoke over dead patient, defrib, run off with him.

When pinned down you can throw a couple off and run! Your teammates can hold some cover!

-If people post anything that I think can go up, I will-

All opinions are worth looking at . I don't have rockets yet nor plan on getting them soon. I'd prefer to spend upgrades on... other things.

I have to agree here. Rockets and Defib. Cant give up either for smoke grenades. I have the unlock just because it leads to the other stuff.

BF2142 smoke grenades are just sad. Mostly they just alert people that you are around rather than cloak anything. POE2 type smoke grenades would totally transform the infantry maps with choke points. Not certain if it would be better or worse, but a mad rush under 2 or 3 POE2 style grenades should give an attacking force a good chance of getting into or past a toll station or crossroads.

This might have been where this came from, but I was thinking just yesterday while on Berlin that a full squad of assaults all throwing smoke grenades down the snow wall at crossroads might be able to make enough cover for a break threw.

Sentry guns and APM's are unafected by smoke grenades and the smoke doesn't last long enough to overcome that disadvantage for Xroads or Toll. NOw the idea of using them for Revives is spot on I think.

    Balance.

Look at this, I'll get 5 to 10 kills with rockets on some maps. Smoke nades might save one or 2 at best a map. That's how I look at it. They are to short lived to make a usefull breakthough.

Hell, I put in the shotgun before that. "What is that?! Oh no, It's a shotgun medic!!"

I agree completly. If I do swamp Rocket/defib it is for shotgun/defib. Usually catches people off guard when a medic has a shotgun too.

Sentry guns and APM's are not even close to enough of a deterent to repel determined squads with almost 100 percent smoke cover from getting through toll station. APM's and sentry guns are only a nuisance to a squad that works together and is quick to revive.

On a determined team attack, some POE2 style grenades would easily, no question, allow at least one squad to get through, especially with Berlin.

Hmm... With the implied comments I think the Smoke Grenade will only be useful as the jump to the Voss...

Pretty much. However, they're also handy if you use them as a proactive offensive defense, just like the EMP grenades . Just prime one and throw it at where the enemy will be and NOT where you're going. First off the grenade leaves puffs of smoke in the air when thrown so you'll get more 'bang for your buck' and secondly in close quarters having smoke all around you is more effective then having smoke in front of you. You opponent may still blind fire, but the more smoke in their eyes the better.

I'd still stick with the defib/rocket combo though. There just aren't enough places where you can make effective use of the smoke very well unless you have a squad throwing in tandum, Rockets, however, are always nice to airburst people with.

Dude, I think that there would also be a squad shooting through the smoke with the turrets. Only smacktards would leave 1-2 turrets and an APM or two by themselves to defend the Xroads rear entry path.

As for that Voss comment, I LOVE that weapon. It was the first weapon unlock i grabbed (and I only grabbed it after I had all the tool unlocks for every class). For those who don't like it at a distance, you're nuts.

A good tactic for the SG's, is to use them as a decoy. They don't last long enough to provide cover, but you throw one on the other side of a road, Enemy will move from cover and reveal their position. Its a great tactic.

    Re: Smoke Grenades

Smoke grenades can be useful but I find more often I'm looking at a situation where I'd rather have defibs or rocket grenades and they cut both ways. Smoke doesn't block scanners or recon drones so you may think you're concealed but if you don't have scanners or drones all you've done is conceal the enemy and they'll just shoot at your red diamonds.

It's a hard weapon to use and requires a pretty cohesive squad. When carrying smoke grenades you've got rely on someone else to use tools like rocket grenades for the purpose of helping you. Even full TG squads are hard to keep cohesive enough to try that. I just want to see a squad throw smoke on top of another squad, scan the smoke, shoot the diamonds and thus kill the enemy squad without ever being seen.

*If you have smoke you're not a Ninja. We still know you're there. Remember that when you try to capture a flag.
