Re: A Guide to Commanding
One other thing I noticed is that you can select a squad by hitting it's number on your keyboard. Squad One = key 1, Squad 2 = 2, etc... Might save a few mouse clicks if you know who you want to do what.

Re: A Guide to Commanding
Hey, i just wanted to emphasize one of the points in this guide:
While I appreciate the gusto some in recent days have taken to Commanding, I want to highlight how hard it is for a SL to concentrate on his squad if you're speaking a lot. The type of communication you do as a SL should NOT be the type of communication you use as a commander. Also keep in mind that any sort of announcement about approaching squads, etc. has to be relayed from SL to Squad member and that takes time. If you keep a running commentary of the game, not only do you seriously annoy your SLs, you make it impossible for him to give ANY of the information you're relaying.II. Communicate effectively with your squads.
Communication is the key to success, but just because you’re talking doesn’t mean you’re communicating effectively. When you play CO, remember that Squad leaders communicating with their squad members is equally – and probably far more –as important as the CO communicating. Every second you spend on the command channel is another second the squad leader can’t spend communicating with his squad.
So brevity isn’t just the soul of wit; it’s what’s going to win games. Keep your information short, and don’t needlessly talk. Remember, highlight a squad and then press V to only talk to that squad leader. Probably 80% of the time, it’s only necessary to communicate with individual squad leaders. Doing this will limit the intrusion on other squad leaders’ time.
When all squads need to be alerted to something, use the B button, and keep it short. If, for example, the enemy has managed to get a back base, quickly announcing “enemy has the square. Be advised” is an effective use of the open command channel.
This being said, DO communicate with your squads. For any order that doesn’t have an obvious reason, I verbalize the order briefly. Even if I don’t explain my reasons, it’s generally reassuring to squad leaders that their CO has put some thought into their order.
I played a recent round with a TG commander who spoke the entire time. I don't mean to criticize him too much because I appreciate it when TGers take the time to command, but keep in mind that the voice communication should be reserved 95% for squad communication.

Re: A Guide to Commanding
When trying to move a sqaud to the back, the best way I have found is to either: give them a flag to attack and assist another squad while you(the SL) mover along the flank alone and when in position have them spawn on you or have the SM's hold thier spawn until you are behind in a better position behind the fighting and then spawn on you. One person does not appear to be a huge threat to many commanders and it is a great way to run past them. Camo and light armor.
Also, being an Sl while Acreo Aeneas is commanding is a true pleasure. Great communication and great job anticipating what the Sl's need as far as support with the oreders given. Very important.....order a flag attack and preceed it with an orbital or EMP as the Sl is approaching....I can't stress that enough along with dropping supplies.Last edited by MDFubar; 05-16-2007 at 09:32 AM. Re: A Guide to Commanding
The only problem I face with that is that squads under non-TGs tend to RUN INTO my OSs and/or EMP Strikes. It becomes a bigger pain when I tell them ahead of time not to run forward.
Hmm, maybe we should put in there something about being too emotional. I find that sometimes I get mad while commanding and make some harsh comments that I come to later regret doubly. Maybe a section on being calm, focused, and taking out your anger and frustration on the keyboard next to you?Acreo Aeneas

An interesting convo I had today, Acero was commanding...I was SLing:
Acero: Guardian, guys to your north
Guardian: Copy Acero, moving on them
Acero: Ok, I'll indicate their position with an Orbital Strike
