Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
wow thats another interesting experience - maybe the whole thing is sort of "bugged" - like the Engineers vehicle scanner occasionally blocking out whole UAVs from scanning anything but vehicles before 1.10.
On another note:
I am sure I also had the Support Pulsemeter additionally show up enemies on the minimap when a Recon was present (like 6-7 dots behind a wall - they sure werent just "Q" spotted. But I havent done any further tests on this one yet.

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
My experience is the same as Bommando's. I've seen the UAV like pulse the drone emits on the minimap, but it has never done anything.

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
I am wrong, you are right!!!
Ok, I tested this ALOT. Ly, you are absolutely CORRECT! If I dont have any recon in my squad the Otus Drone only shows enemies as HUD DIAMONDS With a recon in my squad not only do they show up as diamonds in my hud, THEY ALSO SHOW UP ON MY MINIMAP JUST LIKE THE UAV.
I was wrong, you were right. Thanks for this tip. Sorry for doubting you.
P.s. If I have my Otus out, please make sure I have 1 recon in my squad!!!!!!Battlefield 2: Battlefield 2142: WoW: Oblivion: NWN2

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
I feel like I have to slip into this:
Z0MG Revark!!! You made me doubt my existance!!!111 DIE NOOB! *vent*
On the serious side - thx for testing it out again - I knew I didnt go nuts by BF2142 fever. Also like I pointed out the Otus will ONLY show HUD Diamonds if a Support player is present which is usually the case anyway.
P.S. Good noone noticed my evil tactic of releasing this info so I can go Recon and get lame kills by APM and RDX *cough*
P.P.S. Someone now go and test it with the Support Pulsemeter + Recon. While I am not sure about this one - it still might be possible

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
LOL, sorry man. At least I could admit I was wrong. I had support in my squad, so cant say about the diamonds.
My test scenario was:
3 man squad, I had 1 assault (me) and 2 support.
Here is what my best guesses are from what I saw, and my general knowledge of 2142.
Assault will show infantry on HUD as diamonds.
Engineers will show vehicles on HUD as Diamonds.
Support will show cloaked guys on HUD as diamonds.
Recon will show the above info via MINIMAP.
As far as I could tell. Further testing to come I am sure.Battlefield 2: Battlefield 2142: WoW: Oblivion: NWN2

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
Confirmed! DysTek Pulse Meter PDD-200
I just tested it out with a friend in a 2 man Squad. I went Support and he went Recon.
The DysTek Pulse Meter will ALSO show up enemies on the minimap of all SM if a Recon is present in your Squad.
Of course it will only show them in the normal range of the Pulsemeter which is about a 90° front arc. This still opens up some really nice posibilities when your SL needs to have his Beacon equipped.
P.S. Google for "2142" + "unlocks" with
"beacon" 11000 results
"bacon" 800 results
"becon" 500 results
"baecon" 5 results

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
Further testing:
This info should be fairly accurate, from my own testing.
With assault and recon in squad it will show what type of infantry on the minimap. Sniper icon for recon, etc.
With engineer/recon in squad will show what type of vehicle on minimap.
With support/recon will show cloaked enemies on minimap.
With recon only will show enemies on minimap, but wont be able to tell what kind (armor, infantry or otherwise).
This is fully tested with various squad members in my squad.
WITHOUT recon, you ONLY get HUD diamonds. NO MINIMAP dots.
This is fabulous. Even more reason to get the Lambert unlocked. (snipers are less useful) And as you said, all the recon guys are going to love this.Last edited by Revark; 01-22-2007 at 03:56 PM.

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
That is so interesting! I wonder why none of this is documented anywhere. Could it be a bug, and that the Otus isn't supposed to work this way, or that it's supposed to work that way regardless of what classes you have in your squad?
In any case - this is a great piece of information to use and it's a surprising little easter egg, if it is intentional!
I will start requesting a Recon in my squad when I'm planning to use the Otus from now on...Supports on the other hand, are always easy to find, as you said.

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
I can confirm Lyramion's findings. Recon indeed adds minimap data on enemies captured by SL recon drone. It makes the red diamonds much more meaningful.

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
Yea, after a few days of using this.
Otus+recon > Beacon
My squad averages like a 5:1 kill death when I use this thing. I had it on belgrade and every single squad member had like 20 kills and 3 deaths.
I am wondering if the Gun Drone will respond the same way to a recon in the squad??!!! Testing to come!Battlefield 2: Battlefield 2142: WoW: Oblivion: NWN2

I can also confirm this system working with the DysTek Pulse Meter PDD-200. Noticed this phenomenon while playing on Suez Canal today.

Re: The Recon in your Squad and the Otus Drone
A small nugget of information came out of the totalbf2142 forums today. Having a squad engineer attach a PDS-1 vehicle scanner to your Otus drone could be really useful. In the event that the engineer can't get his hands on a vehicle, you'd have the effects of the PDS-1 moving along with your squad.
I haven't tried this to see if it works, but I don't see any reason it shouldn't.
