Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
The pretty orange from the heavy armor is also a nice plus.

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
I havent seen Vendi in forever, too bad he doesnt play anymore.
And i think that recon is the only class that should always have the light armor. But recently i have been using light armor for assualt when playing maps like Camp G and Cerebere. It entails running to and fro recapping flags, and the extra speed makes it less of a chance of a lost flag"Give a man a match and he'll be warm for a minute. Light the man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life"

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
Adding my two cents-
I almost always wear light armor. I play a lot of stealth roles, be it flanking (as assault or support), sniping or blowing up commander assets. That extra sprint ability is better (to me) than a little extra protection. The reason for this is if I find myself alone against a squad (detected by the commander), I know that they will have a medic and unless I kill all six, the dead soldiers will merely be revived once I have been eliminated, and I will have cost my team a ticket.
I prefer to run away from the squad, turn back once I have a good lead and cover, and fire a few shots (either sniper, rockets, or clark 12 RDX) at them, hopefully distracting them long enough for me to rejoin my squad and prepare to defend against them.
In fact, the only time I go heavy armor is in Cerebre (sp) and once a back outpost has been captured in Gibraltar (sp), as with both it is difficult to be stealthy, and that little extra protection is actually useful to me.
NOTE:
Here are the sniper stats against light and heavy armor
Stock Rifles
Heavy Armor- Does 67 HP damage to
Light armor- Does 79 HP damage to
Zeller
Heavy Armor- Does 79 damage to
Light Armor- Does 90 damage to (NOT 1 shot chest kill)
All Rifles
1 shot kill to the head vs all armor types.
EXTRA NOTE
There are some situations, I believe leg/arm shots, where heavy armor takes 50 damage from stock rifles and light armor takes 67 damage. This does not (to my knowledge) happen with the Zeller.Await the moment for one, and only one, well aimed shot.

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
I have light armor equipped in my standard Recon kit - heavy armor on everything else.
Some times the SL will request light armor when specifying kits - "we're going to be doing lots of running." This is cool, and I don't have any problem changing up when the situation calls for it..

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
I only play recon anyway, so I always use light armor even though I rareky use camo. Moving from one place to another quickly enough to get the kill forces me to leave the Heavy Armor back at the base. That and when the enemy finds me I have to move... fast and get the hell out if I wanted to live.
300 to 1? No problem. Might need more bullets though...

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
Wow, lots of old threads are seeing the light of day again!
I prefer light armor for recon as well, but only when squad leading or when trying to get into a position to cause some havoc.
I use heavy armor for engineer and support. I vary it up for assault, depending on the map and objective.

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
I have both sprint unlocks, and I use light armor for all but support and engineer, because those are the two kits that are most likely to take a heavy beating. I usually play an assault-medic kit and I can tell you that, that extra little bit of sprint can help a whole lot when your trying to save your squad leader during a firefight, and you can always heal later if you get hit a few times. As for the Zeller I say just don't get sniped. It's bound to happen one way or another, heavy armor or not, headshots = 1 hit kills, so I take that chance for the added bonus of speed and efficiency as a medic. There's also the lack of armor against normal shots and not just sniper/explosives that a lot of people will say heavy armor makes the difference in too. Just don't get hit, most of the time, gunfire, rockets, and apm's can mostly be avoided by either killing your enemy before he/she kills you or just avoiding those things all together, medics are for keeping people and yourself alive, a.k.a the art of living under fire =D. Also the recon kit is always with light armor, recon's shouldn't really get hit a whole lot anywho if they're using a sniper rifle. My opinions xD

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
I switched to light armour for all four kits last summer, and have never looked back. I find I die quite often wether I wear heavy or light, and I can run so much farther (needed in any or at least most TG squads) with the light armour on. I will say the new shotgun, and sentry gun damage is making me consider the move back to heavy in certain situations.

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
This. It used to be that I'd always wear light, but the Clark simply tears through light-armored infantry. Now, if I'm having an off day or find myself dying too much, then its back to heavy, but I'll default to light.
edit: I am aware this directly contrasts to what I said earlier in the thread. Since then, I've found that positioning accounts for more fights than simply sitting in a hail of bullets. In addition, I've become more reliant on my squadmates to pick me up if I go down, or to open a path while I stay light to move from cover to cover. Further, I've been using the Krylov and Scar exclusively recently, which, while I find to be superior weapons, lack the staying power of the Voss. For this reason, light armor allows me to sprint far to the flank, get behind cover, fire off a clip, reload while sprinting to a new vantage point, and then still have enough sprint to get back to the squad to pick up anyone that dropped.

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
I switched to light armor way and didn't give it much thought until the update with the Clark. As draeh pointed out, it just tears through ya. I still use light armor and prefer to ba able to move quickly and try to avoid the face-to-face encounters......unless I am carrying the Clark. Playing on the Tg server, I just expect to get revived and usually do. even as an Engineer I prefer the light armor so I can quickly move behind the tank or apc and score a quick kill. I also feel that the increased mobility in the Engy kit is a must...just have a medic close by.

Re: Light vs Heavy Armor
I'm in the "LA for Eng/Recon (only play recon when trying to camo run as SL), HA for Assault/Support"
If I'm reviving, I'd much rather still be alive to revive
