    Prone vs. Crouch

Just interested to know which people use more. I assume everyone uses both of them to some extent, but I think lots of people prefer one over the other.

Personally, I very rarely go prone unless my cover is very short and my head sticks up. Otherwise, I crouch for the manueverability of it.

i understand this isn't a very important question, but i notice many people go prone with great frequency, and it made me curious.

Oh, and also... ever since reading bommando's piece, i only ever crouch to revive someone. It's just much quicker.

    Re: Prone vs. Crouch

I crouch 90% of the time unless, as you said, there is little cover or I am trying to be somewhat stealthy...

    *Edit*

I rarely shoot while standing up and if I do it only because I am popping up from behind a box or something like that.

If at first you don't succeed, you need more firepower.

There is nothing wrong with feeling something when you shoot your enemies... as long as that something is recoil.

    Re: Prone vs. Crouch

If I'm hitting the dirt, prone almost always. If I'm trying to stay low, crouch.

Other than those two specific situations, I am generally 50/50 on which one I use. I guess its whichever one fits the bill for that particular situation.

Though if I'm playing recon, and I'm up high, 99.9% of the time I go prone.

    Re: Prone vs. Crouch

Due to the delay in firing and huge initial accuracy loss when proning, I usually crouch during most combat. I prone during panic or defense situations.

I agree with Fehm and almost always crouch during combat. I only use prone for defense around obstacles or taking fire I know I can't evade.

only prone when camping from a good spot for defense or offensive cover. otherwise, i will prone when i encounter an enemy when im on point and i want to give the people behind me a good los to the target.

    Re: Prone vs. Crouch

I think its just the BF2 instinct to go prone to gain ungodly accuracy. Yet 2142 change it so you lose accuracy when you initially go prone, so crouching is really the "new prone" in 2142.

Most times when people go prone you have enough time to pull out your knife and shank them before their accuracy returns to normal. Except the Voss. I find I die a lot from people dolphin diving and insta-proning with the Voss.

I heard someone say that before, "crouching is the new prone".

I'm usually crouched unless I'm on a building, then I'm prone.

    Re: Prone vs. Crouch

If you go prone and wait for your aim to come back down, then there is nothing wrong with going prone (in fact it is the most accurate stance). I was talking about when you come to a shoot out with an enemy, it takes a couple of seconds for your aim to come down if you hit the dirt right away. Where was crouching your accuracy instantly increases when you crouch.

You can see this a lot more with the support guns since there reticles show how settled the gun is.

From what I have been told here, there is no difference in accuracy between settled prone and settled crouch in 2142, unlike in BF2.

That would be nice; the crouch/tripod shooting position is very stable irl. Pull the butt into your shoulder and rest the foregrip on your knee, and it's like buttah.

Everytime I shout I crouch, just one of my habits.

    Re: Prone vs. Crouch

I used to use prone exclusively and after losing most face to face encounters I now use both depending on the situation.. the cons to prone are that it's slow to get down to the ground (enemy shooting you while you are making the move) and once you are in prone you are completely immobile and all that the enemy has to do is aim at your head (basically every hit the enemy gets from then on is on your face!) whereas if you are crouched you may get some lead in the face but the enemy will also hit your body.. but if I see that an enemy is going to come around the corner and I have time to set up I surely will go prone, scope-in and wait..
Really the only con to crouching is that more of you is visible.. so usually if I'm camping as sniper I'll be prone but if assault/support/engineer I'll crouch for an encounter.
