Tactical Theory 201: Choke Point Management?
Okay the assaulting side of Berlin. North, Middle, South breach route. Best ways you have figured out how to get through? Would the combination of Smoke Grenades, Cloaking, and Defusing work to get through? The assaulting side always seems like a slaughter... Discuss...

Re: Tactical Theory 201: Choke Point Management?
i think it really depends on what the defense is giving you.
the hardest assualt is the north. you have low situational awarenes coming over that hill and people are allways in hard to hit positions with grenades ready. i have rarely found this route effective. the middle can work if the D is soft there. there is no way to get a vehicle there too easily. if you have an apc you can get the engy in your squad to try to disable the mines by podding out into them and hoping for the best. i have allways had more success in the south. if you can get the apc or walker there to cover infantry advancing up the ladder or under the building you can then make it through to next flag before the forward D has a chance to react. you will still need and engy to defuse the mines that will be there, but they are usualy easier to get to there than in the middle.

As long as there are no mines on the south, a good tactic is to drive the APC to the south fenceline and pod your squad over to roadblock. It's unlikely the APC will last too long after that, just don't give it to the enemy.

Agreed, SOUTH pass is the way to go (but not for the walker - it's only good for infantry and the APC to round that corner and take out the cannon and engies sitting and waiting for the walker to come down the middle).. north hill can get ugly BUT if the friendly walker/apc are right next to the flag it can bring about enough of a distraction to have a zerg rush over the hill and get dudes running toward the back flags (flanking)..

I too will say the south side is the best way to get through the EU line. If you get the APC back there with one or two engies, you will have a big enough foothold to get squads over that fence line or up the ladder and down the other side.

Re: Tactical Theory 201: Choke Point Management?
On the Northern route I believe you can take the Walker up there to cover the infantry. Two guys with smoke grenades will provide enough concealment to sprint through unaided, we did this last Friday 3 times in a row. We would've only had to do it once had the rest of our team not just camped out half way between the UCB and the first flag instead of advancing. EMPs also help soften up the enemy and lessen their ability to pick you off.
On the Southern route you can use the balcony of the building right next to the ladder to get to Roadblock. It has better cover, you can revive dead players, and you come out closer to the flag but it gets neglected. Another thing that will help greatly is to take out the enemy UAV with the AA kit from the engineer. It only takes one guy on the entire team to perform this job but it helps greatly for both sides. As far as mines go RDX and Zellers will clear them and they're easier to use in those circumstances then a defuser.
