    Camping Squad Leader Beacons Yey/Ney

    Situation:
An enemy squad had setup a SLB near where you squad is operating. You manage to force through their defence of it until the only thing remaining of them is their SLB.

    Main Post:
This afternoon I was threatened with being kicked/banned because of saying over VOIP "Leave the SLB up, we can camp it." Thinking this was allowed but by being told this by another TG member that it was a bannable offence, I shut up promptly. Thinking I had missed this rule in the SOPs.

Though thinking back over this on the next map when we were having our SLB watched over by a FAV, I started thinking that maybe camping a SLB was maybe allowed. After all there is nothing stopping the squad spawning somewhere else. In the UCB which it is a kick/banable offence to camp and agress it is ussually the last flag left on the map and so should be respected that you leave it alone. In a SLBs case the squad can spawn somewhere else to stop being killed every time they pod to earth. If the enemy has taken all the flags then SLBs don't work anyway so there should always be a point to spawn.

Confused with the matter, I had a quick word with Silver. He said that he had nothing against camping beacons, and after finding nothing about it in the SOPs I'm pretty sure it is allowed. Though the TG member who told me not to do that was very sure that this was a serious rule violation.

What are your opinions on the matter?
And is there an official rule on the matter that I have missed?

Sorry for the acronym spam and sorry if this has been posted before.

It should be generally acceptable. I believe this was discussed before and most people felt it was ok since you can just spawn somewhere else.

Seems like you'd be doing your team a whole hell of a lot more good if you just destroyed it as opposed to camping it. I can't think of one tactically sound reason to camp a beacon over destroying it. In fact, the only thing I can think of is for the sake of getting points.

Yeah that is true, the worst you can really do it take an enemy squad out of the game for a while depending on how long they take to realise but your squad gets wasted to. :\

But really I wasn't discussing the tactical viability of it just whether it was allowed or not.

tactically, it costs them tickets and leads to your team winning. in most cases, I would think it makes more sense to destroy the beacon.

That can be said of general spawn point/UCB camping as well.

After my beacon is camped for X amount of time... I tell the squad to stop using it. If their beacon is near a flag I am trying to defend. I have to keep defending the flag until they stop trying to take it. If I dont destroy it after they quit spawning in on it. I m leaving it for them to use later, after we have moved on. I dont see an issue with camping a beacon. Hopefully the opposing squad is smart enough to stop using it.
I invited everyone at the office to play Battlefield, but it was a rather one side match when I was the only who brought an assault rifle to work the next day :-)

    Beacon Camping is allowed.

It totally disables an enemy squad. While they can stop respawning on it - they are taken the possibility to spawn on their Squadleader at all.

By putting down a Beacon you take the risk of it. Noone would expect for some loud smoking pods falling from the sky to not attract attention. People falling down KNOW where they will spawn and even have a short overview of the situation. Its nowhere compareable to "normal" spawncamping.

If camping it is a good tactic or a bad one is up the the Squadleaders in the games.

I'm not all that familiar with your rules.. but agree that SLB camping should be allowed. If opposing squad doesn't know better than to spawn repeatedly on the SLB when it's camped - they deserve to get owned.

In general, unless you hear from a squad mate about conditions "on the ground" - you never know what to expect when you spawn at any location - a flag that's yours, a flag that's in contention, etc. You might spawn in front of an APC.. it's a guessing game.

To me the idea of camping a beacon just seems to be without merit no matter how you spin it. Certainly any competent SL will be smart enough to tell his squad to stop spawning on it when it comes under threat, but it's the idea that it's entirely acceptable for a squad to allocate themselves to the purpose of camping a beacon rather than destroying it and moving on that I find a little bit absurd. Just seems to be a little bit off from what I've come to understand TG to be about. But it's not my call! So happy camping I suppose.
