Master the Hachimoto TV Missile (including short Video)
We all know the Hachimoto is fragile - only to be surpassed by how easily the driver and even more the gunner are killed.
First a very important fact: The Gunner of a Hachimoto DOES INDEED HAVE a TV missile. You switch into TV view by pressing your RIGHT mouse button in the gunners seat. I need to point this out because recently I had gunners lined up perfectly to a walker or the enemy goliath for more than 5 seconds - and all they did was look around in the sky with their mortar. When you are fighting a Goliath you have 5 people inside who are usually rather bored due to the lack of fast paced action and have lots of time to spend to look around in every direction. Even a short strafing run to line up the gunners TV easily ends up in your gunner not beeing there anymore. The solution to this is to bring in objects into the line of sight that prevent the Goliath from attacking you while a skilled gunner can still make the TV missile hit. Of course it is way more difficult than a perfect lined up shot but the Hachimoto has a ton of TV missiles and you can keep trying while beeing safe from any revenge. To show you some possibilities I made a short movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ft4C7HuH7CM Last edited by Lyramion; 03-16-2007 at 04:12 PM. |

Re: Master the Hachimoto TV Missile (including short Video)
Wow that's such a cool vid, I especially like the last shot where you 'scratched' the side-shield; impressive! I agree with you on the fact that you really need a good gunner to operate properly. I've had it happen a lot of times before that the gunner (probably) doesn't even know he has a TV missile available.
Also thanks for the tips in the movie, those are really helpful (like the lift shot - I'm gonna try that one sometime too!). |

Have you mapped the TV missile guidance to your keyboard? Whenever I try to use my mouse, it's like it's swimming in molasses.

No I started out using the TV with the Mouse on the Gunships which has an even higher sensitivity than the Hachimotos. In fact I wish the Hachimotos TV would be a bit more sensitive.
You need to have a calm hand and only move pixel by pixel while paying attention to the reaction delay. Dont try to overcorrect wrong movement because that will just spin the TV round n round. I also read about mapping the TV to the keyboard but I never tried it out. |

Um .. how much of that video was in slo-mo?? It looked like that "missile" could be outrun by an old lady.
I understand that the helo missile in normal 2142 is difficult, but did they REALLY make the missile in NS soooo easy?

Re: Master the Hachimoto TV Missile (including short Video)
I have tried mapping keyboard keys for TV missile control, and they simply can't move the missile fast enough. The mouse is imprecise, but at least it will impart some change in direction.
On that Remagen map, you can "safely" TV East Bridgehead by placing the Hachi on the west-east ramp that is east of this CP, and doing the reverse of a "lift shot" by launching under the bridge that provides protection from angry Goliath fire. On a final note, one-man Hachis remind me of one-man gunship TV missile antics from BF2, before they made the choppers fall from the sky with no pilot. |

Go Fehmart and Deimos speeder tactics! I don't know how many walker and goliath pilots we've made cry, I lost count.

Re: Master the Hachimoto TV Missile (including short Video)
Do you think the game will be re-balanced now that people understand a slow, tall walking machine is a target, not an asset?
They made anti-armor projectiles soooo slow in order to make the walkers seem nasty, but now that it's rubbed in their face regarding how vulnerable tanks and walkers are to an engineer sitting on the back of a jeep .. prolly nothing will happen.

Re: Master the Hachimoto TV Missile (including short Video)
I've been using those TV missile "tactics", I just never thought to name them.
Personally, I believe the toughest obstacle to overcome in the mastering of the TV missile would be plain ol' lag. |

Re: Master the Hachimoto TV Missile (including short Video)
Ah yeah, Remagen and Bavaria are the best maps for Hachi TV work. The long open roads of Remagen and the abundance of paths for the Hachi on Bavaria make for easier anti-vehicle work. It's very important to closely communicate with your driver/gunner, because the line between life and death in the vehicle is very thin. It's probably quite obvious for most people, but it may bear reiterating:
Driver: -Tell your gunner when a TV shot is lined up. -Just like in Compton, stopping anywhere that is not secure is an invitation to get carjacked. -Avoid motion mines like the plague. Unlike FAVs, you cannot outrun these little bastards. One thing I have not tried is telling the gunner to bail out while mines are chasing me, in an attempt to save at least one life. -Hesitation is deadly. If you choose to go down a road or path, commit to it. Speed is your only defense. -Just like claymores, keep the front towards the enemy, even while being pursued by something. Not only does it protect the crew as much as it is possible, it lets you plink with the driver guns. Gunner: -Tell your driver the status of the target after each shot, and if ammo is running low. -Also, let your driver know when the slope of the ground prevents a shot. -Warn your driver verbally and/or by spotting when infantry have flanked the vehicle. Don't just hope that the grenade launcher will take care of business. -Continuously scan for targets on the GL. Your driver will hopefully let you know when it's time for TV. To help in this endeavor, slap on an IDS or PDS. -Prepare to die a lot. Your points won't be stellar, but who really cares about that nowadays? The Hachi is fun. |

Re: Master the Hachimoto TV Missile (including short Video)
That Port Bavaria round with Fehmart was really fun. We did primarily anti-vehicle work, so as he says, we didn't rack up huge kills, but I feel we did a great job neutralising the deploying APCs, the Goliath and advancing walkers. What this role does successfully is deny the enemy kills rather than rack them up for yourself.
Communication was brief and concise and worked very well IMO. I'd identify targets with my good FOV and Fehmart would line me up. I'd notify of launch, so he could duck back behind cover while I guided. I also took Lyra's advice of slow adjustments and made a lot of very accurate hits, including knocking many panels off the Goliath. We really punished the Goliath as it advanced and even got a finishing blow one time. I used my dynamic sensitivity buttons on my mouse to turn the sensitivity right down, which makes guiding much easier, since you don't over compensate as much. I didn't have time to check, but Arf said that we were doing great chunks of damage with our repeated side and rear TV missile shots. A walker can also be taken down with two leg shots. Something we managed more than a couple of times. The only thing I struggled with a little was the occasional lag, where the missile would skip or appear to be ploughing into the snow when it was actually flying straight. |
