Battlefield 101 - The Prone View

Not eveyone knows how strange your view is while going prone so I will point out some stuff for you here.

While you Stand or Crouch the view you get on your screen pretty much matches the outside view of your player model. Remember that while your eyes might be behind cover on crouch your helmet still sticks out a bit.

When you go into Prone - do you notice that your view doesnt move forward even 1 inch? Your view just goes streight down while your model expands itself to the front and the back.

Trying to Center yourself over a Decoy and look streight down. It looks like you are right above it and with your weapon pointed down. Well...

...results in this outside view (moved a bit to the right for better visibility). As you can see your viewpoint is just about your stomache and the hips with your vulnerable head leaping out much further than you ever wanted.

Ever been prone on a building or the monorail and think you are hidden so well? The truth is almost half your body will be over the ledge if you want to get good shots to the floor below.

If you fight close to a ledge shooting down always crouch. It lets you move back faster for one and wont show body parts to the enemy that you never intended to show.

Yay I am hidden so well! Dont prone around hot flags like this. Your feet are easy knife targets. If an enemy comes you have no chance to evade any shot he does to your long body - even tho the 1st Person view might suggest you are hidden nicely.

Also if you try to leap forward to knife someone dont go too close. A too close contact of your prone model to the enemy results in your knife often not working.

And this is why EA needs to fix the clips(collisions with objects, not amount of bullets in a gun) (points to the last picture)

That's totally true, I never go prone really, I always crouch if I want better accuracy and I never camp anywhere so I don't need to go prone anyway. I have made a lot of advantage on players who do, though. I have shot guys who think they were behind a wall but still got body parts sticking through it alot.

You can knife someone's feet and get a kill for it? I didn't know that.

Good info about going prone. Now I know why those people who like to camp roof tops hang so far over the edge making themselves even easier rocket targets.

I have knifed a bunch of people in their feet at the Church on Cerbere Landing who think they are hiding on the other side of the wall. I can imagine some unhappy words being said when I cut their feet off

I also never prone if I can avoid it...your response time from the crouch is much faster than prone. I believe they took away the prone firing bonus and left the crouched bonus as well; although I can not confirm this.

It looks like going prone also makes all the text on your screen get all garbled up also.

The bonus is still there, it just takes 2 seconds to reach maximum accuracy when going prone. A very welcome change after all the insta-prone LMG annoyance of BF2.

Crouching still confers an immediate accuracy boost.

which is why i never prone anymore. i used to be the best in BF2 with my L85 medic gun prone and bang headshot with the single shot man i wish bf2142 was like that.

Same here. I always crouch and I seem to do better than when I prone.

Also avoid going prone to avoid sticking your feets into any walls to secure yourself the ability to be revived!

After reading this post im very paranoid about going to prone and sniping, or going prone and doing anything for that matter!

Have not seen an improvement yet, time will tell i suppose.

People lying prone behind walls or barriers with their feet sticking through is a snipers best friend. Be aware that you're not just in knife danger.
