Re: Tactic: Trump Card (EMP)

Hey guys, I hate to put a damper on this. But my thread is about how to use EMPs to a tactical advantage. I dont care for the points. Lets get this back on track and help other people use EMPs more effectively.

As others have said, it does. Spamming nades and emps over the hill on Fall of Berlin is how I got my support bronze, silver, and gold.

Re: Tactic: Trump Card (EMP)

The medic loadout I never change -- Baur, revive, rockets. That's pretty much the holy grail of Assault.

The support, however: Clark, IDS and EMP 'nades or sentry.

I used to take EMP nades on armor heavy maps, or where the armor is really annoying my teammates but I definitely have to reconsider now.

Let's get back to Eroak's point and discuss the tactical advantage of the EMP nades and not the points.

One interesting scenario, which I have yet to try, is to EMP falling flags and rush in with a Clark. Anyone have experience doing this? Does it work? What kind of a flag setting would it work on -- something partially enclosed like Berlin's Crossroads or Gibraltar's Harbour, or something more open like Verdun's Church or Belgrade's Statue? Is it an effective rambo technique or does it work well with squad mates too?

An interesting use of the rambo would be to spawn support on Toll Station on a public Gibraltar and stop vehicles with the EMP and EMP again to confuse the attacking PAC and then take 'em out with the Clark and the IDS.

Re: Tactic: Trump Card (EMP)

Finally someone notices their potential.

I try to think of EMP grenades as flashbangs that also work on tanks, if you are REALLY quick after throwing an emp, they probably won't even see you.

Also, they are quite good for scaring the pants off greens, if they see something like that flying towards them they're bound to think it was a grenade, it's worked for me on several occasions, flushing troops out of cover for an apc to tenderise them.

Works quite well if there is more than just one of you, and the sooner you do it after the emp the better.

Re: Tactic: Trump Card (EMP)

I'll have to reconsider my loadout as support, thanks for the info.

People seriously under consider the usefulness of the EMP on the APC, that's for sure. Many times, in tight situations, while defending a silo or a flag, I'll rush to get in an APC, EMP the walker or tank that's walked up and is now camping said silo/flag, and while it's EMPed, quickly run up and RDX it.

Re: EMP Grenades - use them, like em, love em

First post here! Sorry if it's a long one....

I've been reading through the forum for the better part of two weeks but didn't feel the need to add anything (though I have learned a ton from you guys) until today.

I was reading through this thread. It caught my attention because, as a support soldier, mainly, I have always thought the EMP granades to be a complete waste of time. I mainly lug the sentry and the pulse meter (haven't unlocked the IDS yet).

I finished reading through this thread with a curiosity about the EMP's that I had not had. So, last night when I got home from work, I played for about 2 hours. I played on a Camp G thread (wasn't TG's, so I don't know the etiquette 'round these parts yet, so I won't mention the server). I generally hold my own but never finish near the top. Sometimes I get completely worked and other times I do pretty well but a top 10 finish generally eludes me. I played with my alternate soldier that I started with a few weeks ago.

First game, I was on PAC. As we attempted to assault into the camp, I planted myself down from the building to the west of the harbor flag in the grouping of rocks and started lobbing the EMP’s with an occasional frag. Needless to say, I attracted a lot of attention pretty quickly but also started racking up some kills as the EU guys came to get a better shot at me. I must add that I lasted MUCH longer in this location with the EMP's going in than I ever have in that location with only frags. They attempted to rocket me but seemed unable to get a read on my location very often. Our squad made its way toward the flag pretty quickly, took it and moved on to Central Camp. I was paying particular attention to my score since there was some discussion about whether the EMP’s give you points. They do. However, I was unable to tell how many are necessary for one teampoint. Sometimes, one hit would do it but other times, it took up to 3 for the score to change. I wonder if the directness of the hit of the EMP matters.

At any rate, we won the first game and I finished 4th. Second game, I took the bronze star. Third game, I took the gold star. I played 6 games and never finished lower than 6th place on our side. I also only had one game with a negative K/D ratio and that was only 7/10. My average score went up by at least 10 points per round. Now, I know none of us play 2142 for points but I also noticed that I was able to get more frag kills after launching the EMP’s. It’s much more difficult to see the frags coming in when your HUD is all screwed up.

So, in summation, it took only 2 hours to make me a COMPLETE believer in EMP’s. I think I’m done with the sentry gun. I’m sure it will still find it’s uses (like in the docking bays on Port Bavaria at the start of a round) but overall, I’m back to toting the EMP’s. Thanks for the great thread!

I gave a detailed analysis on the support kit on the "Support kit 101" thread, (read it if you want, it's the post that seems to never stop...) I agree with this post almost completely Lyra (If you don't mind me calling you by your informal name ), I have found most of your posts on tactics enlightening, it strikes me that someone from Germany, with their second language being English (I'm assuming) is so great at articulating themselves, and better than most other people can.

Its frightening actually...

Re: EMP Grenades - use them, like em, love em

I was in a walker when I experienced a stun lock for the very first time. I quickly figured out he must have an ammo box because I was stunned about 15 times in a row... and NO one on my team would help.

I remember thinking that was a pathetic thing to do (the stun lock) but that was probably because
a) I was on the receiving end
b) It will take a long time before I am able to perform it
c) I'm a whiner! :-)

But it worked. Unfortunately, he did not seem to have any help nearby either. It took a long time before someone got around to killing me (I was NOT getting out of that walker.. i was alone and he was on a roof)

[RANT]

Skylark brings up a great point. I have been playin ALOT of support lately and I can't stand when I announce that I am going to EMP some armor, start EMPing and watch everyone run the opposite direction.

There we sit...just me and the guy in the armor...staring into each others eyes long enough to see into each other's souls...and then I get knifed.

For the love of God, if I am EMPing a piece of armor, jump in the railgun or find an engie kit. If it's a walker then get under it and start shooting for all I care, just please do SOMETHING.
