NetBat and You
We all recognize the importance of spotting. It's quick, it's easy, and it gives your entire team situational awareness of the enemy for a short duration. However, few squads actively acquire NetBat targets. I assume that the primary cause of this shortcoming is the general ignorance in activating the NetBat.
Spotting a target with the Comm Rose will not light up a red diamond in the NetBat. This is a common misconception, and spotting will only place the target on the mini-map. In order to place enemies into the NetBat system, squad members must target them with weapon zoom for about 1 second. Keeping a target in the crosshairs will activate the NetBat system and display the location of the enemy as a red diamond for the entire squad.
NetBat, unlike traditional spotting, provides greater situational awareness for the squad, and can reveal the precise location of enemy troops, even behind cover. Additionally, when using the SD-8 Accipiter drone, spotting targets will not help the drone track the enemy. If NetBat targets are not obtained as detailed above, the drone will not fire on the enemy and will be quite useless for the SL. As a side note, the Dystek Pulse Meter is the only item other than the Otus which will automatically acquire targets in the NetBat. When combining the Pulse Meter with the SD-8 Accipiter, the attack drone becomes far more deadly.
Another great use for the SD-8 gun drone is attacking the enemy while the SL is behind cover. If squad members activate NetBat targets, the drone will fire upon them, even if the SL is prone behind an obstacle. The drone naturally hovers, so it will generally remain above all small obstacles which will conceal the SL. Thus, the drone can engage foes while the SL is crawling away from harm. (Caveat: Hiding in obvious places with a drone flying above you will result in a swift death, courtesy of rockets)

Re: NetBat and You
Oh my, I'll have to keep this in mind. It is usually instinct to just comm rose spot targets, but I may have to start net-bating them. Spotting targets does help in figuring out where the target is by location (on a map) and distance, but tells nothing about elevation.
I'll definitely give this a try next time I play. Thanks for the tip.umm... hello?

Great tip! Definetly worth using and knowing.

Re: NetBat and You
This is worth knowing. I didn't know you had to sight them for about a second, I thought that just pausing over them with unzoomed crosshairs would light them up.
I always use the Otus though so I never really noticed the difference.

Re: NetBat and You
That's a great tip, I'll definitely use it over just spotting a target and letting other people deal with it if I can't combat it.

Re: NetBat and You
Then I'll try to do that as much as I can. But sometimes you don't have time, for example when cloaked.

Ya, not being able to spot while cloaked is very frustrating, but probably better off this way. You could cause some serious hurt if you could I think.

Activating netbat
How do I activate Netbat and better yet, how do I use it to my advantage?

Re: Activating netbat
Activating it is by targeting an enemy with your scope for >1 second (When the little red diamond appears). This works for squads. The netbat makes the same diamond appear in your squad mates hud no matter where they are. So if your in a squad and you start seeing little red diamonds, it means your squad mates are spotting enemies and your receiving that info over NetBat. Also, unlocks (like the otus for squad leaders) are local area scanners that feed netbat data to the whole squad.

Re: NetBat and You
Unfortunately for the netbatting squad member, if they just pulled the trigger for that 1 second they were holding the crosshairs over the target, said target would be VERY DEAD. (Unless they were using a sniper rifle and missed the head, etc etc.)
Hence, netbat is of limited use.

Re: NetBat and You
Not really, say you're all infantry and there's a vehicle approaching. Doing this will help out a long way in finding a good cover position, or say you're squad is a bit spread out and you're boxing the enemy in. One person on the edges may get a netbat spot off on a few before they reach the enemy, giving the approximate location of the squad. Or as mentioned earlier, squad is spread out over the map, you get diamonds popping up all over the place, this can be extremely useful.
