APM Placement
Hey guys, writeing this one up for those who still like to play that recon and getting away from that overheated Defib.
Running over many badly placed APMs and getting by with ease isn't tricky. You jsut crotch on by when you see one. And you tend to see many of them. Well if you pick smart choke points you 'll get even the most seasoned TG'er from time to time.
When I place my APM's, my back is to the wall and looking strait down. This gives you the tightest placement possible.
Bad APM settage! oh noz, I'll goez another wayz
Setting smart APM's! They'll never see it coming!
Up that stairs, It's already behind him and hes already dead!
I hope this helps some recons get them extra kills for the team!

Re: APM placement
Nice work. I don't like APMs that much either but I prefer getting blown up by a well placed one rather than one of those APMs these true recon pros just throw on the ground when they have nothing better to do

Re: APM placement
On another side - sometimes I am placing APMs VERY obvious. Then you will have that Squad crouching around it with 4 guys - then you shot them with your Lambert and one usually triggers it

I find this is actually more effective sometimes than using them to eliminate targets. if you can get people crouching down a gauntlet, they are sitting ducks.

Re: APM placement
That's an amusing scene to play out.
"Guys! There's a mine underneath us!"
"Okay, everybody crouch."
"Got it."
"Bein' slow."
"Smooth and stealthayyy!"
"INCOMING FIRE!"
"TAKE COVER, RUN RUN RUN!"
"NO, THE MI-" *BOOM!*
*several audible sighs*
*Embarassed* "...sorry."
I wonder how often this occurs in squads. Probably too much for comfort.
Of course, the more common incident is that you are crouching into the core room as a recon kit and there are no more enemies inside, both titan hulls are at 5%, and you know you can blow it and pull out a narrow win for your team! ..and inevitably, right at this moment, some newb in an assault kit with the name "APMMastur1337" shows the incredible irony of his name by RUNNING right past the APM you are crouching by to get to the core and blowing you both to smithereens.
But yes, back to the topic.. I too notice that many APMs are placed poorly. Sometimes I can understand poor placement, particularly in situations where you want to deny the enemy quick access to an area and encourage them to use other paths. But most of the time, it is just quick and sloppy throw-down. I admit I've been sloppy a lot myself with them sometimes, but a quick look at my 2142 profile shows I don't use APMs much at ALL. Recon is not one of my better outfits.
Nice pictures of good APM placement. I adore the placement of the one fourth image down; used it myself on those fence openings sometimes.

Re: APM placement
My favorite placement is the first one! One of my nasty little tricks is to put that obvious APM out there in the middle or a choke, road, or narrow passage. Run about 150m away and watch it for a bit. Infantry is careful esp. when they think nobody is watching, they go to crouch...real slow...easy head shots. And in the event they start reviving...SHOOT THE APM! blows em away. Although, the APM shot if sorta funky and unreliable at times.

Oh, didn't know that one! I got to try that one now.
Also to note, tonight I got 7 APM kills on Tunis Harbour to the east of junkyard. Just random people running in. I also managed to get a few 7th on the RDX'ed flag

Re: APM placement
Apm's on top of boxes are also good placement. Everyone looks down to see them, very few look up. Chest or face high, most people will not notice and run right past them.............BOOM!

Re: APM placement
Since I saw your RDX, it reminded me of an APM setup I was taken down by.
Now firstly, I'm an Engineer that loves the defuser (why don't I get points ). So there's an APM right on the corner of a building, I defuse it no problem but the recon goes and blows an RDX pack, killing me.
