    Engineers and Motion Mines

I've been volunteering for engie more and more now that I've unlocked motion mines. Does anyone know how long they last after you've been killed? My usual tactic is to lay them and then hide, but if I knew they would stick around after my death I'd be more willing to go out and find trouble.

that's a good question. maybe something worth experimenting on? They don't last long enough that I'd feel comfortable dying without a revive if my mines are protecting a key access point, but it's long enough that if I've laid MM + EMP at, say, Toll station and I die, they easily last long enough that I can relay the mines before they disappear.

my experience has been that they last what seems like a fairly long time. I often will skirmish for a 1-2 minutes before returning to the spot where I laid the mines to re lay them.

I think in BF2 they were 10 minutes dunno if it's the same in 2142. Probally something worth testing.

Pretty sure its less than 10 mins, maybe about 2? Incredibly useful, always great when you find another engineer kit on the ground, pick it up, now you have double the mines for nothing, though they may disappear faster if that kit disappears.

The mines vanish shortly after your kit goes. If your kit stays in play (someone picks it up and drops it or an enemy player grabs it) they'll stick around as long as more mines aren't placed with that same kit.

The mines wont change teams if the kit gets picked up by the enemy team.

Motion mines stick around close to a minute after the kit is gone. When I am in a walker and I know the engineer I killed placed the mines that are under my feet, I just wait till they vanish.

Well motion mines are good but if you place them and die i wouldnt want to rissk the chance of them disappering if i dont get revived in my experience of gameing and tournaments that base on temawork and stuff is that you alwasy want to A. revive as most as possible(If i am right it saves you a ticket.) or B. spawn in the same general location and find you kit so the mines do stay. Becuase if the enemy is smart they will just wait till they disappar or find another way or send in a engi with the defuser.

yeah, they stick around for about a minute after you die.

In addition, if you pick up someone else's kit off the ground after you lay the mines, they'll disappear. Unfortunate.

Yeah, if you have an engy kit with mines out and find another, best to pick it up as well, place yours down, then try and cycle the kits every few seconds if you can to keep the mines out. Kinda hard to manage though because you may die and lose both.

Oh, there's an idea. Hmm, I'll have to see how feasible it is to support two kits worth of mines. Maybe if I whack an eng in a defensible place.

    Re: Engineers and Motion Mines

From my experience multiple deployables are linked to the player and not the kit (motion mines, EMP mines, APMs, RDX) while single deployables are linked to the kit and not the player (IPS, Sentry Gun, PDS, IDS, Health Box, Ammo Box).

If you pick up a second engie kit and lay down its mines then you're going to bump up against the 5 limit rule and cause your original mines to self destruct in order of deployment once you put down a 6th.

Never timed the death rate of mines after you've died, but mines will go into independent mode after your death as well. That's where they'll work as normal unless the target gets away at which point they hover in the air and float around being utterly useless. A good driver can sneak past independent mines by driving up until they activate, getting out so they do their flying mine routine, then walk on past because they'll never reset to reestablish a target.
My sanity is not in question...
It was a confirmed casualty some time ago.

Light, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill because they ticked me off.

Not sure of this, but I'll have to check it out. I seem to remember suiciding with 15 mines from 3 kits once... Good times.

Motion mines + mmb can be deadly!
