Uranium - 235

So while the server's closed for MIA and DIG I joined up a server and took my hand at commanding.

We won, and I like to think I did pretty decent, but I felt like I only had a hand on the 'basics'.

The map was CampGib, I spawned myself with an engineer kit and hid behind stuff at EU Base. It was a pub server but surprisingly most people organized into squads. Squad Alpha and Bravo were full teams, the Charlie and Delta were two or three people.

I started off simply assigning basic roles. Alpha, Delta, and Charlie would hold Harbor, Bravo would fall back to Toll. Unfortunately early into the match two people slipped behind and took Ruins for the rest of the map. I tried to get Bravo to fall back and spent most of the time using Sattrack and UAVs to spot enemies. Ruins fell and it wasn't long before the enemy stormed us and we lost both EU Base and whatever that other one is back there. We looked pretty screwed.

Reassuming command once I respawned, I dropped supplies next to my orbital strike. My squads had orders and I saw a few people trying to capture Harbor. Once it brought itself up I spent the time manually spotting targets and dropping artillery where I could until they destroyed it again. By the time they did that we reclaimed up to Toll.

I tried to send Squad 2 on a flanking manuver but micromanaging isn't very easy with the commander UI which is pretty crap to say the least, and I don't think they knew what I was doing. Squad 1 managed to take back EU base and once the EMP was back on they wiped out everyone across the street in 'that flag whose name I don't know', via me dropping EMP on the defenders who were pretty much worthless without crosshairs.

I had tried to use voicecomm but I don't know how it works with commanding and if it did transmit, nobody replied to me anyway, so I gave up.

A few times I found the enemy walker and once did the EMP + orbital strike combo, but it didn't work too well. A second time I simply EMPd it hoping squad 2 could take it out, as I had just dropped the artillery on Ruins trying to clean it out for people to take it back, but they ended up trying to mutiny me for "not dropping the artillery on the walker" (note: the walker ended up exploding anyway about 10 seconds later anyway).

A few times I had to run around and repair my assets and the lone specops would run through and knife me occasionally, but in the end we won - barely, by about 10 tickets.

That said, any tips / tricks I should know? For the sake of knowing what the hell do the little toggle icons with the speaker next to them (I think the icon is an exclamation point, and toggles to a checkerboard) do? (Said icons are on the squad list). How do I make fun of my squads that suck?

You right click the radio icon next to the squad name and a list of phrases appear. A "your rubbish" one is amongst them.

I use the 3 call rule: If I ask you for ammo/health/repairs 3 times and you just stand there and look at me, im TK'ing you and taking what I need.
