Oh, Zoraster, you have no idea. The gunship can be a doomsday weapon if the pilot and gunner can work well enough together. Sure you have to worry about enemy gunships now and then. But you can take all armor down to burn in one hit with the TV missile without giving a lockon warning. And the mini-gun is extremely powerful against soft targets.

Re: The air transport

oh, i have no doubt that you can keep the transport in the air for a long time and kill lots of people with it. I guess my question is more aimed at how effective is a transport squad at capturing and actually holding particular flags.

I'm just thinking about Shuhia. If I take a squad in a FAV to a flag and we take cover, I see little chance of the transport actually able to repel that.

Oh, I thought you were asking about the gunship.

Well, the people in the transport can move into a better vantage point and shoot down with the gun. Only real way to hide would be to be under something, even then there's a bit of splash. If all else fails, the passengers pod out and go down and clean 'em out. I find a good strategy is to have someone firing, at least one or more engineers inside repairing. You fly over the flag check it out, possibly drop some motion mines, make another sweep, infantry pod out, cap the flag, declare it safe, you come in to pick up and move on.

I guess it all depends on how well the squads can work together to see who would win the flag.

Re: The air transport

Anospa hit it on the nose. The major advantage the Transport squad has over the FAV squad is primarily that the transport is in the air with full coverage of the area while the FAV and its associated squad is hunkered down on the ground with few options to repel the transport aside from a lucky AV hit (which a good pilot will avoid by staying mobile) or running towards the nearest AA gun (which a good gunner will cut you down before you reach).

You then have a squad locked down on the ground with a squad given free range above them to rain death and destruction at whim. People in the bay doors can also just drop grenades by just right clicking and releasing so a low altitude bombing run is a fun option against multiple soft targets on the ground under cover.

Re: The air transport

Keeping your ground based squad under cover and spread out will neutralize the threat of a hovering transport. Podders from the transport will be slightly disoriented upon touchdown giving your squad time to take them down. Have someone ready to go for the AA gun when it respawns and have other come in with the SAW is alter a good counter to this - or - if the transport doesn't move around all that much, have two guys go after it with the pilum, works for me.

I can vouch that the pilum is the best defense against a hovering transport. You don't hear the shot coming and the shield won't stop it.
