Thumbs up The air transport

In my opinion, this has to be the most underused and underrated vehicle in 2142.

yes, it's a big target. So is tank, but this can spit out so much more firepower with the right loadout of people in the passenger seats.

It has infantry and (to some extent) gunships and favs covered with the two GIANT machine guns on the sides.

It also, however, has a further 4 passenger slots, and these can shoot out of the sides, fill it with engineers, and nothing is going to get near it (IMO).

if you had, say, two normal engineers (pilum/rocket) and two with saaws, you'd have pretty decent anti-vehicle, and awesome anti-air abilities. Not to mention they can drop motion mines/emp mines on vehicles if you fly over them.

if you really wanted to you could load it with recons (not for the sniping), who can drop RDX all over the place, and have the pilot play as support with the advanced ammo crate to resupply them, but, of course, that leaves you open to all sorts of ranged attacks.

[rant] also, why is it that you have just one person in an armoured PERSONNEL carrier. It's not an armoured PERSON carrier for cheese sake! It has 5 machine guns, an EMP, and a grenade launcher! Why does no-one use them!! Think of the damage it could do to infrantry!![/rant]

Re: The air transport

True - having a support gunner, as SL flying, a pilum and 2 SAAWs can rock. you jsut need to be very clear about which direction tings are in and who weaps ontot he MG's etc (I dont think you gain much by having it full)...

It's the fastest way to get a full squad around the map, but it's also the fastest way to lose your whole squad all at once. It's made out of cardboard and ground up eggshells or something. Don't leave it parked out in the rain!

But I do really love the things.

Re: The air transport

The transports are probably the deadliest vehicles in the game if you use 'em right. To be effective, like you've guys have said, support as pilot, then at least two engineers and you're pretty much solid. They can take quite a beating and keep the same elevation very consistently. Didn't really think of the rdx mining idea, thats pretty cool. Have an engineer pop a PDS on your and maybe an IDS, and you're solid. SAAWs are very hard to coordinate with the transport. In my experience, its more of an annoyance for the attacking gunship(s) rather than a real problem. You're really much better off with your gunners unloading on them/fleeing to a better area that you can trap it in with AA turrets, etc.

They can also very quickly and efficiently clear the ground of targets through the guns, or by making a nice low sweeping flight across the deck/landing.

Re: The air transport

If you ever want some tips on how to run the "transport of doom" talk to Argh... from Squadplay server. He's #1 in the world in the transport by a huge margin and he is damn near impossible to shoot down. The only way you can do it is with a combined team efford and a lot of luck.

Re: The air transport

Very interesting ideas. I especially like the "engineer/recons of doom" firing and dropping explosives from the sides. I could see this be fairly effective against tanks due to the blind spot right on top of their head, but how would this work against the godly walkers, which have no blind spot?

Re: The air transport

Be lucky?

lol, its not very easy and I'll usually avoid them/do a very very fast run past them.

Re: The air transport

Transports that get shot down usually fly way too low - you can zoom in with the Guns from up high and pick off infantry.

Also the Transport has only ONE and only ONE gun! The right Transport Gun is broken by default and will only kill something every 5th game. BROKEN! So concentrate on your left Gun.

What do you mean by default? Was it intended not to work?

Re: The air transport

Nope, just sadly won't fire on target. I've had it work now and then like Lyra said.

If the tank has a gunner, and he should, your engineer's better be on the ball because the tank's top gun can cut the transport apart at ranges close enough to effectively drop rdx on the tank's head.

Re: The air transport

If you're stacking engineers in the transport then forget the Pilium and SAAWs and bring the default rockets. Firing from the transport is like firing from the bed of the FAV. When you're moving its near impossible to hit something and when you're stationary you're dead meat. Even at a hover you're going to get plenty of sway and the pilum was never ment to snipe things at range. The SAAW is also mostly useless because you can only look in one direction and you'll have to contend with sway. If your target zips far enough out of sight your rockets are going to go to la la land and rarely will a gunship pilot approach a gunship straight on towards the crew compartments because the guns can hit them there.

The best load out is Assault pilot, Support Gunners, 2 Engineers in the crew, and 2 Support/Recon to finish the crew. The pilot will supply the crew with health (you can still shoot out the gunners and crew because of the open sides), the 2 support gunners provide the crew with ammo and can lay down the hurt. The two engineers can drop mines and make pot shots with their default guided AV rockets and the last two crew members can either drop RDX/APM (recon) or drop grenades/Clark-RDX/EMP grenades from the air (4 support = Super fast resupply).

On the transport two of the seats (5 and 7 I believe or 4 and 6) lets the crew member turn enough to repair the transport by targeting the spot under the gunner's seat while inside. Make sure your engineers sit there and someone is always fixing your bird while underfire so you stay in the air. With two engineers repairing the transport you can pretty much sit in concentrated AA fire and laugh as they keep your bird topped off...until the EMP rockets hit you and you fall like a rock.

On titan maps I think I like the HALO aspect of the transport the best. Take your bird up into the thin air and clouds and use your map to navigate. Since an active transport acts like a spawn point for the entire team you can constantly drop death from above via pods by circling a silo.

Re: The air transport

yeah, I tried to get my titan drop thing that way, but for some reason, no matter how many people podded ontp the titan from my transport, it didn't count.

Re: The air transport

A short Pilot Advice from me:

- Always concentrate on the left gun and do turns to the left

- A Transport has no chance against a professional Gunship. The sky above and the TV Missile are your weak spots. To make yourself dangerous to gunships let your repair slaves have SAWWs. Even if they cannot hit - they can "scan" the air to detect the gunship and produce a lock on sound to scare it off.

- While "farming" Infantry switch to your outside view. It makes it harder for you to stay at one spot in the air but you can see incoming treats so much faster.

- The PAC Transport owns - the EU even more. The EU Transport has a a higher rate of fire and fires faster. So be sure to take the offer if someone abandoned an EU Transport.

- Fly high avoid to get owned by stationary AA but fly low to evade SAWWs

- Yes you ARE a Transport. You are allowed to pick up Squadleaders and bring them anywhere they wish.
