Discussion: Battlefield 2142 / Battlefield 2142 - Tactics and Missions Discussion - Which Engineer weapon do you prefer? - I find that the SAAW missile will only keep tracking for about 3 seconds after
I find that the SAAW missile will only keep tracking for about 3 seconds after the SAAW has lost its lock. After this, the missile flies off into oblivion. The other key is to hold the trigger so the SAAW will not reload. Holding the lock for as long as possible is absolutely key. With a good line of sight, the SAAW will hold a lock for the whole 300m weapon limit. It takes 2 SAAW missile to down a gunship at 100% health. It takes 3 to down a transport.
I wonder why your not getting the lock-on warning for the entire 15 seconds. I always hold the target locked-on until I get the HUD hit indicator.
I'll work on FRAPSing a SAAW usage video.

Reason: more thoughts.

It was a confirmed casualty some time ago.
Light, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of the people I had to kill because they ticked me off.
Its slightly more powerful against APCs and Walkers, but the defaults are more powerful against Tanks. And by more powerful I mean its typically 3-5 damage better than the alternative (although the SAAW is a different matter entirely).
The stats have been posted in this thread and others before it from a source that didn't take certain things into account.
Basically the more armor you encounter (armor on armor that is) the higher your default rocket will be compared to the Pilum because it has an explosive component to it. The Pilum has a higher average damage, but since its purely impact damage you'll do less damage with armor reduction unless you're hitting the soft spots of armor. This difference varies depending on what you hit, where, when, and how you hit it.
Several other factors come into consideration that people have not tested or haven't cared about. The pilum, as a fired round, probably has a range maximum/minimum that will affect its damage. However people rarely care about that because unless you're as sharp as the guy in the video I posted you aren't going to be hitting jack at medium/long range moving targets.
The EU default rockets are also a cluster of rockets which can affect your damage if you're making a glancing or inpercise shot. Basically while it's grouped closely together it is still a 'group' and some rockets may miss or hit a spot of higher armor on the target. This will vary the EU damage against precision targets (like the underside of an APC) greatly because of the difficulty of stringing several rockets through one very small hole.
To counteract this the EU cluster has a higher average damage than the PAC single shot, and both do more damage against high armor than the Pilum because they have a longer reload and have to maintain LoS to guide them in.

Now that's interesting information to have. I guess a squad of Engineers with a support suppling ammo could go prone on the road and lay 'supressing fire' into the fog by shooting the pilum down it. ^_^

I do this quite a bit on EU Berlin. It at least scares some armor.
Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
