I had to reinstall windows on my machine.
Fresh BF2142 install, updated to 1.40, installed Northern Strike.

Loaded up a map and the crappyness began. Updated PB via PBsetup. No effect.

I am pissed.

Running with admin privileges on M$ XP Pro 64-bit edition.
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz
w/ 2gigs of Corsair DDR2 800mhz
and a XFX Nvidia Geforce 7600GTX (my second card for SLi recently died. May it R.I.P.)

Punkbuster be damned. but in the mean time...

Any Suggestions?







P.S.
I coded the URL as a link.... but apparently the TG forums have in place a rule witch prevents me from doing so. A silly rule witch I might add is in need of being removed.

that rule is to prevent spamers, as for PB try this, and judging by your in game mouse some background program could be interfering

That isn't my mouse, its just a video I found of some1 else who has the same problem.

Been there, no luck in there support/FAQ documentation.


New Development:
I've discovered I can play the game just fine on the user from witch I originally installed it to(the default "Administrator" user that windows creates before you make any other users).

I did copy the C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Battlefield 2142 folder into my other users "My Documents" folders to make the settings global and not have to add favorites/customize controls and video settings again.

That could be causing the problem however I doubt it because I've done the same thing before with no ill effects on my previous installation.

I was gonna see if deleting that folder thereby forcing BF2k to create its own for that user would fix the problem buuuut...

Steam will not come up on other users. Something to do with the C++ lib not being able to initialize. I suspect some sort of silly DLL problem from the error msg.

So.. thanks to any1 who paid attention to my somewhat rantatistic post. I believe I'll just abandon my ideas of running a main user without admin privs since it won't even run on my secondary user WITH admin privs(Why XP forces you to make the first user you create an admin is beyond me. Perhaps there is some technical reason I do not understand. For one reason or another its as if the default user, doesn't count as a user.).

google an app called absolute uninstaller
uninstall 2142
reinstall 2142
download update 1.25
download update 1.40
install 1.25
install 1.40
(optional) download and install Northern Strike
(optional) download and install mods
run pbsvc.exe to uninstall and reinstall pb
run pbsetup.exe

Smoke a bowl and write your congressmen.

I have been having some issues with PB I believe also. I been getting kicked a lot with some message stating Admin Decision PB(something along that line anyway). I thought to begin with it was due to the fact I accidently ran a FAV into my own teams walker and the walker of course killed me on impact, so I figured an admin seen it and thought I did this on purpose and kicked or banned me. I also waited 5 minutes and could not rejoin. After asking I found out I was not kicked or banned.
I have been kicked with the same message and thought it was a SM kick but when I refreshed and looked the server only had about 40 players. I even closed completely out to make sure it was no glitch or something but still showed the server was not full.
I have been having problems quite a bit with being locked into a squad which I was told could be a reason why I was being kicked which I started disconnecting from the server as soon as I seen I was locked in a squad and rejoining. Still got kicked with same message.
Also, I see EA still has problems with the unlocks not being available at times and ranks being screwed up. I think EA needs to make a patch and dedicate just working on that patch and not adding anything new till all is fixed RIGHT.
I plan on trying to update OB manually one more time to see if that will help.
