Re: Fix for Loading Screen Freeze!
SUPER SUPER UPDATE!!!
There is now a permanent way to fix the Radial file! By simply creating a script to delete it every time you load up! Since battlefield will just create another one, you don't need to worry about deleting it when problems start happening!
Here we go:
1. At the desktop, create a new text document (right click, New, text document) and rename it delete_radial.bat
2. Right click delete_radial.bat, then choose Edit.
3. Copy paste this code into the file.
cd "CProgram Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142"
C:
attrib -r -a -s -h radial.cdb
del /f /s /q radial.cdb
start bf2142.exe
cls
exit
4. Save
Now you can either use this file as your shortcut to 2142 or you can edit the 2142 shortcut to point to the batch file.Last edited by Azura; 02-18-2008 at 12:14 AM. Reason: I type suck

This is the best site. If EA was as cool as TG, we'd all live longer lives... or something. Well done Azura.

Re: Fix for Loading Screen Freeze!
Probably not.
But, I really wouldn't recommend doing it, unless you are infected by this flesh eating battlefield ruiner. Why? Well, it doesn't just affect everyone, eventually it probably will, but still deleting the file now, means you probably will be infected and got to start doing it.
It's better to leave it alone until you have too. Just prepare yourself, be patient, you will get screwed! But it's better to learn how to do it now so you can get on the battlefield quicker!
A cure for slow load times there is! Just get more RAM!

Re: Fix for Loading Screen Freeze!
Yea, just switch to classic view!
Then...
1. C:/Program Files/Electronic Arts/Battlefield 2142
2. Tools - Folder Options - View
3. Under Hidden Files and Folders, Check "Show Hidden Files and Folders"
4. Uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)
5. Delete the Radial.cdb file

Re: Fix for Loading Screen Freeze!
So I got fully mocked for musing about this in TS last night, but it seems to me that the radial bug only occurs on my machine after a game lock (freeze which I have to resolve by ending a the process or hard rebooting.) Does anyone else see the same correlation? Or is this totally old news and I'm just catching up?
And for fun, this was the scene in TS:
|TG|fredgwynne: "So has anyone else noticed the radial load screen bug only happens after a hard crash?"
Silence.
|TG|fredgwynne: "Or does no one care?"
|TG-3rd|Quade: "I don't know. I'm still trying to find Waldo."
I just can't seem to win with the 3rd. You magnificent bastards.

Re: Fix for Loading Screen Freeze!
Haha, I honestly don't know if that could cause it but, it's a possibility. When you close battlefield, it SHOULD clear the file of data. Perhaps, when you hard boot it doesn't allow it to clear causing you manually delete it.
Then again, I am only allowed to play battlefield once....
... If I close battlefield, I need to restart my machine anyways because, I'll get dropped from the game every 30seconds on the server. Even the radial file doesn't fix that, but apparently no one else suffers that, so I'm having trouble fixing that.
But I recommend making a batch file, when I turn my CPU on, I double click it, deleting the radial file and move on. Better than navigating to the folder and stuff. The batch is in an above post.
We just got to learn to live with it
