One question, one statement

I was playing today and a question popped into my head, is blocking a ladder with an IPS shield against TG rules. I searched the forums but couldn't find a mention of this rule (I probably missed it).

Also since I'm Irish trying to seed the server late afternoon is almost a given these days i was in the first battle. It was obviously a small battle between 4v4 maybe getting up to 10v10 towards the end. I was Co which I've been playing a lot of lately and I was fighting a bit (rockets mostly). Someone told me I couldn't fight as commander, which I new was the case. I thought I could fight if server numbers were that low, I stopped fighting though since I wasn't sure. I would now like to clear my name (don't remember who told me).

Quote:
B) Commanders MUST make their command role their primary activity. A commander should not be engaging in front-line battle if it impedes their ability to command their army and maintain awareness of what each squad is doing. In games where there are less players (i.e. 8v8) then the commander is able to join in the front-line battle.
That's was from rules and regs. Anyway back to the point IPS blocking ladder or not?

Re: One question, one statement

Interesting, but since the IPS could be destroyed, I think it would be okay.

In "real" life if someone put something down at the top of a ladder, it would make it difficult if not impossible to make it over. Imagine if a soldier put a 3/4" steel plate at the top of a ladder, no way your making it past that. Now in the future the steel plate is replaced with a plasma shield. lol.

And, to answer your question, when the server is has a decent number of people playing, the CO is not to fight whatsoever, unless being attacked. But, with low numbers on the server, it is acceptable to fight if you can maintain your CO duties, as well.

Re: One question, one statement

Yes, an IPS may be used to block ladders, hallways, etc.

And to reiterate what you already know, the commander MAY indeed engage in combat when the server's numbers are around 16 players (8v8 in the rules). The commander may also defend the UCB if need be and repair assets, etc. However, if the UCB is under attack from an asset destruction squad, it would be wise for the commander to have a squad clear out the UCB rather than waste time and energy on it himself/herself.

Re: One question, one statement

Thanks for the confirmation Lorax.

One other thing on a server fuller than 8v8 where one side (or both) has no uncap can a commander defend his back base with his assets? For instance can a commander defend EU base if he is in the vicinity. Since his death is more or less assured if the enemy take the base anyway I was wondering if there was an exception to the rule.
