Lightbulb Deleting the radial.cdb file: A solution to freeze, lag and many other problems

Dear all,

If you look at the majority of posts here, you will see that many BF2142 problems are solved by simply deleting the radial.cbd file.

This file is in the root directory of your BF2142 installation. It gets bigger over time.

In order to see it on Windows explorer, you must set the “hidden & system” files view option on the Windows explorer tools menu: Tools -> Folder Options -> View Tag -> scroll down Advanced Settings.

When you find the file, right click it, copy, then paste, to create a backup file (Copy of radial.cbd).

Then you can delete the original file.

The file is recreated every time BF2142 loads.

Because this is a procedure you have to do in a regular basis, I suggest creating a batch file (.bat) for starting up BF2142. The batch file will first delete the radial.cdb file and then start BF2142.

Batch file example: StartBF2142.bat

@echo off
cls
del C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2142\radial.cdb
C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900 (or whatever options you have)

Regards.

Heh, this has actually been done already, and the file has been discussed quite a lot. The thread below this one has a lot of information already, and run a search for bat file and you'll find a few threads with bats in them and how to set them up.

Re: Deleting the radial.cdb file: A solution to freeze, lag and many other problems

Hi Anospa,

As you said, the solution can be found in many threads in this forum.

The reason I created this post was to indicate the importance of this file and its relation with several BF2142 problems, in one post.

It will be nice if the admins post a comprehensive and sticky thread regarding this issue. Everyone could read and find a quick answer to solve their problems, without having to search deep on the forum. I say sticky, because it seems that many players have problems, that could be solved with just deleting this file.

In the same logic, the BF2142 "cache deletion" solution can also be a sticky post, as the "alt-tab" solution is.

I agree. It would be nice if an admin can delete all posts relating to the radial.cdb / half map load bug and have one master that is sticked post there the solution is easy to find and there is no confusion. I was aware of this issue, and even for me when I encountered the bug again it was extremely difficult to locate the solution. I am sure for people who are new the BF2142 this forum is a nightmare to navigate to find the correct solution.

There was one thread posted by Azura quite recently on this which is very good.

Yup, it's the simplest, but most useful and most common fix.

I just found one today actually.

It's truly best not to delete it after copy/pasting a new one. You'll find yourself having to delete it every time you play. For convenience just rename it, trick battlefield to thinking it's clear. Call it whatever, what you think of BF, after your pet dog, doesnt matter just rename the one in the folder. Mine is called "poop" because it reminds me of BF problems.

I'm afraid I don't entirely understand what you mean in your post. Are you saying to not delete it because of possible not yet known problems that it could cause??

Also, where's the thread saying how to create this batch file?

No.... This is what I mean:

-If you delete the file, you will have to delete it each time you want to play
-Instead Copy the file, paste it anywhere but in the BF2142 folder
-The original will be left in the 2142 Folder
-Change the name, call it Splenda if you want
-The game will create another Radial File
-The new Radial File will be ignored because of the one already in there
-Outsmarts the game

Deleting it will only be a waste of time and an inconvenience, thats why I put it the way I did, to make it as convenient as possible. Do it then forget all about it.

Re: Deleting the radial.cdb file: A solution to freeze, lag and many other problems

OK wait, lemme get his right.

Create a folder, (I'll just create it in the Electronics Arts one, next to where my Battlefield 2142 one is located).
Copy paste the original into that folder.
Rename the original to anything, BUT, do not rename the pasted one.
Then you are good to go.

Tell me if I'm missing anything, or is that right?

Yup there you go! Now you'll never have to do that again unless you re-patch or re-install

Is it the same command to show hidden files on Vista as it is on XP?
