Hey Guys,
Lately (past two weeks or so) I've been noticing that my very first match of a gamming session (on any server) is always incredibly laggy for the first 2-5 mins, it's pretty much to the point where I can't shoot anything and I just run around trying not to die until my lag settles...once it settles it's fine though, even after a map / server change. Anyone have an explaination or suggestion for me? I've tried updating my video drivers but that actually made it worse so I had to revert to my old ones. Thanks Specterr |

Re: Always massive Lag for the first few mins of my first match
Increasing system memory usually helps resolve this issue. One gig of RAM is not enough for this beast, when I upgraded to 2.5GB, the problems went away.

Re: Always massive Lag for the first few mins of my first match
I don't have any problems with lag now I used to sometimes before. The only reason I get it now is if my ping gets a bit jumpy (shouldn't but does).
I only have a gig of ram so I turned most things in video to low. Another fix that might help is giving 2142 high priority in task manager, there was a thread about this. Deleting the radial may work but what worked best for me was copying it a folder up and renaming the original.

Re: Always massive Lag for the first few mins of my first match
I run on a gig of RAM, but I have a decent enough graphics card I can turn a few of the graphics settings for the game up a bit. I think I run somewhere around medium, for most settings. However, I also experience the occasional loading lag. 'Course, it's often hard to distinguish from the occasional ping spike, to which I am also subject.

Re: Always massive Lag for the first few mins of my first match
Thanks guys, I ended up takinga buck shot approach and changed everything. I deleted my cache and also cleared a bunch of files off my partition with the BF2142 on it to bring it up to about 60% free, there was also something wonky with my BF2142 drive because it wouldn't allow me to chkdsk or defragment, so I worked at that and finally I fixed it and it everything seems to be working good now (crosses fingers).
Note to the curious, if you find that you can't defrag because it says chkdsk is scheduled, and you can't chkdsk because it says the drive is being used by another program, start in safemode, go to command prompt, call up your desired drive, and then type chkdsk /f and hit yes to the handle question, that should work for you, I spent 1.5 hrs trying to get it to work before finding this solution. |

Quote:
1) Open a "command prompt" and type: 2) Type: chkdsk c: /f /r 3) Answer "yes" on the question 4) Restart system Windows will do the rest. If don't like commands, then do: 1) Open "My Computer" 2) Left-click on C: disk and select "properties" 3) Go to the "Tools" tab and select "Check now" 4) Choose both options (check boxes) 5) Answer "yes" on the question 6) Reboot system Windows will do the rest. A detailed report will be on your windows event viewer.

Re: Always massive Lag for the first few mins of my first match
If you're running rivatuner or have some other applications running in the background they might be cutting in to RAM and/or disk activity. Rivatuner has some reported issues with lag. Try pb_sleep 250 in the console as well. Also, I've found that BF 2142 caches stuff when you first fly around a map and hear certain sounds from vehicles etc so a slight lag is normal in the first minute or so, but not something overly bad. 2 GB memory (+512mb video) is pretty much a must if you're playing with "high" textures.
Update your punkbuster as well if you haven't. Edit: Didn't read the problem was resolved sorry. Still good advice, the above, imo. Last edited by HeatSurge; 01-17-2008 at 10:49 AM. |
