EA Download problem

Okay, so for those of you who don't know, a couple of months ago my computer died, and recently I've had to reformat it in order to make it work again. Being the fairly disorganized person that I am, I've lost the little booklet that went with my 2142 DVD, so I can't install that way. The price of 2142 has gone down quite a bit though, so I decided to just buy and install through EA Download Manager.

I downloaded the game, the patch and NS (which I had bought through EA manager before). The problem is that when I launch it, it gives me this message:

Quote:
the game can not start. In order to launch this game, please login to the EA download manager to verify your ownership, then try again
I can't find where through EA Download manager I can "verify" my purchase, and when I attempt to launch the game THROUGH EA manager, it does the same thing.

Any ideas?

Re: EA Download problem

You have to stay logged in to EA dowloader when you launch 2142. I have had the same problem, but when you are logged in the program runs.

Are you sure you are logged into the correct account? < I know that sounds stupid >

Re: EA Download problem

Not sure about the new EA downloader, but look in your installed folder for a BF2142PACE.exe, run this instead of the on the downloader uses (I think it uses the launcher.exe). Should run the game without trying to verify the EA program (This worked when EA Link was around, so it may not apply now).

Re: EA Download problem

Just to let you know, If you lost the booklet and can't reinstall cause you do not have the CD KEY you can go to EA Support page, I beleive this is the link. http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg...p_sid=LnKF*qVi
You should be able to sign in with the account name you created with BF2142 and then click on "My Account", next page that comes up will have tabs on it, click the tab that reads "My Games". This will go to a page that will have all the EA games you have registered under that name. Under each game there will be your CD KEY.
I had made mention before in the BF2 forums that I beleive this should be made into a sticky and renamed to "Forgot or lost CD KEYS? Learn to get them back HERE!!!". So many people end up losing their manuals with the CD KEY and usually by the time they can find a post about how to find it they have already went and bought the game again.

Also, I believe EA Downloader is just trying to verify that he bought the game, so it does need to be running. You say you misplaced the manual but not the DVD, have you tried the DVD to run the game? If you have the DVD then do as I siad and recover your CD KEY and just install that way and forget about EA Downloader, I have heard so many people having iussues with EA Link and now the EA Downloader. I bought NS through it but was going to hold off till it came out on disc but they decided to just combine BF2142 and NS together and planning on selling that instead of just NS on disc.

Re: EA Download problem

thanks for the CD keys suggestion. wish i had asked before buying, but that's life.

I managed to get it working by actually using the launcher button in the folder rather than the shortcut on the start menu.

wow. I wonder if certain of my problems from last week were not related to this problem. It is good to hear you are running.
