After scouting the internet for more resolutions to the crazy battlefield issues, I was able to locate many common problems with many easy fixes! The ones marked with "***" are ones I find to be very common! If you don't want to check the whole list, just click CTRL + F and type in the *** to skip to those!

*** - Stats Not Updating
Unless your computers clock is set at the same time zone as your local ISP (not your actual time zone for those who are border line) your BFHQ will never update.

- Punkbuster Kicks and EA Server Disconnects
Use Punk Buster utility to manually update your files.

- NO CD/ DVD Error? Game losing connection? Hanging and or crashing?
>Start menu
>Run
>type msconfig and hit Enter
>go to the startup tab and uncheck EVERYTHING
>click ok and reboot
If you want, you can take the time to repeat this process, only you re-check the programs in startup one at a time to test which one is causing the interference. Once you found it, turn everything on except the malicious one.

Resolves CTDs, No CD/DVD error & many other issues.

- Game freeze & Graphical corruption
Ensure your video drivers are up-to-date.
a. Go to Start
b. Run
c. Typ "dxdiag" (without "")
d. Check your DirectX version is 9.0c (4.09.....)
e. Go to 3rd tab. (Display)
f. There is a date in this tab.
g. If it's fairly old your drivers are not up to date.
h. Update the drivers and everything works fine.
i. If you dont know what videocard you've got, you can find it in the 3rd tab.
j. Download -> Install the drivers. And dont forget to reboot your pc!!
NOTE: You may need to download and install tweaked drivers from your video card resellers site, eg. from the ASUS site rather than ATI.
NOTE2: Some people have resolved their CTD issues by rolling back to the last driver available especially nvidia drivers back to 9.13!

Resolves many issues with video lag, game freeze & CTD.

- Game freeze & Audio corruption
Ensure your audio drivers are up-to-date.
a. Go to Start
b. Run
c. Typ "dxdiag" (without "")

e. Go to 4th tab. (Sound)
f. Click on Test Direct Sound & go through the test.
g. There is a date in this tab. If it's fairly old (2 years) your drivers are not up to date.
h. Update the drivers and everything works fine.
i. If you dont know what audiocard you've got, you can find it in the 4th tab.
j. Download -> Install the drivers. And dont forget to reboot your pc!!
NOTE: If your audio card is on the hardware rendering unsupported list, you must use software rendering for sound in-game. Find list in readme here:

If you're still experiencing game hangs with looping sound glitches etc, then go into dxdiag again and on the sound tab, move the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level slider down to Basic. If this resolves your problem, then you have a conflict and should slide the Acceleration level back up one step at a time after going through point 5. again.

Resolves many issues with audio looping, game freeze & CTD.

- Still getting Crashes To Desktop and PC hangs after doing everything you can think of?
You need to test your PC RAM. Go to:

Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)
and make a CD from the ISO. Use a rewritable so you can wipe it again, or use the floppy download.
Make sure your PC boot sequence in the BIOS (usually get into this with del on boot up) is set CD first then HardDisk, and boot from the CD. Run through a complete set of tests whilst you're out at work/school whatever as this takes simply ages with over a GB of RAM, but is very thorough. Any problems highlighted will mean you probably need to replace the affected DIMM (RAM stick). Hopefully not all your RAM will be affected.
You can first check your RAM is in matched pairs (same make, size & speed in same coloured slots), and if not, assuming you have two sticks, remove one stick for testing purposes (yes it'll run and load slower, but if CTD dissappears then it's memory related). If you have four sticks, remove all bar one of them (leave it in slot 0) and test. If it still CTDs, swap the RAM stick over for another and re-test. If it CTDs on all sticks, then you definately need to test your memory.
Good luck - I know it's a pain, but it'll be worth it if you can sort out your problem. Remember, very few applications commonly used will hog as much RAM as BF2142, so it may be the only one which highlights the problem memory.

- Alt+Tab from game hangs the game in a black limbo.
Here's a fix for it. If you alt+tab right when you login before you join a server, you can alt+tab out all you want in-game.

*** - Get kicked from game's after anything from 2mins to 1hr?
It's due to the dual proccessor! What you need to do is load the game up 'til your in the options start up page then alt tab out, ctrl alt del to bring up your task manager, then goto processes and right click on the bf2142.exe. Once there goto "set affinty" and when this come's up make sure that the only thing checked is cpu0 make sure all others are unchecked, then play with out getting kicked for some reason.
To set the processor affinity to only a single processor on a more permanent basis;
You use a program called imagecfg.exe It should be in your Windows install. If it isn't, you can download it from several places (eg http://www.reality-xp.com/support/kn...ebase/1006.htm ).
You then enter these commands (Start Run CMD). The first undoes any previous affinity Windows has set. This step isn't necessarily needed, it's just good practice. The next assigns the process to one CPU or the other. file.exe is the program you wish to change the affinity for e.g. BF2142.exe.
Code:
imagecfg -u file.exe
imagecfg -a 0x1 file.exe
0x1 is CPU 0
0x2 is CPU 1
Imagecfg does not seem to recognize folders with spaces in it like "C:\Program Files". To get by this copy the Imagecfg.exe file to that directory and exclude the directory /path.

Resolves Random CTD.

- Everything goes dark inside the Titan.
Some ATI cards/drivers have problems with the Titan when set to LOW in video settings. Up the lighting to medium, and enjoy the inside of the Titan.

- Error on game load "Memory.dll : sanity check : block size 246157300 ( 234.75MB ) doesn't seem sane", or similar Memory sanity check insane error.
There are several steps to try to resolve this apart from checking your RAM isn't dodgy (see 13 above):
(a) Try clearing your page file on shutdown by following this M$ article here:

(b) Try resetting your Pagefile. The error can be due to a corruption of the Pagefile, although this should have been cleared by (a), it may be recurring due to fragmentation. Make a note of the original Windows Pagefile size, set it to 0, then reset it back to the original size.
Every so often GrmRprRG runs a little utility called PageDefrag to make sure there's no fragmentation of his PageFile. You can get it from MS at:

(c) Make sure you have the latest motherboard drivers for your SATA drive (used to be a major issue with BF2).
(d) Reinstall Windows and have a clean install of BF2142. Its quicker than extended troubleshooting if the above fixes didn't work.
If you have two harddrives, install Windows afresh onto your spare drive, and then copy the new BF2142 install back onto the other HD with the problem (you could use an external USB drive for copying the game over if you don't want to fiddle with master / slave jumpers on the drives). Also copy the BF2142 folder in My documents.
All should be ok now.

Resolves Memory sanity check doesn't seem sane error.

- PunkBuster Kicked for Losing Key Packets with an error code ffff0001 or ffff0002?

The Voodoo fix is here: the game locks up at around 60% map load or CTDs in single or multi player mode.
Load the game in windowed mode!
I did NOT uninstall/reinstall anything. I did not delete/rename anything.... I simply loaded the game in windowed mode and it loaded all the way through. I changed back to fullscreen and played 2 more maps without incident. This works for no known reason!

To load the game in windowed mode open the properties of your shortcut and change "+fullscreen 1" to "+fullscreen 0". Just change it back to get to fullscreen again.

Resolves Map Load Hang & Crash To Desktop.

- Game Freezes PC - Lock up after anything up 5 mins of play?
TEMP locations may contain some temporary game data.

1. Go to your command bar (start menu - run). Type in "temp". Empty the folder that comes up. There are usually a few things that cannot be deleted. Delete the rest. Close folder.
2. Go back to command bar. type in "%temp%". Empty this folder. Same as above applies.
3. Now go to C:/My Documents. Move the folder called bf2142 onto your desktop. Start up game. Redo your settings. Play.

Resolves PC Freeze / Lock-up during play.

- Using Vista & Losing connection?

If you are on Vista and you are using wireless, you will get a lag spike every 60 seconds. That is because every 60 seconds, Vista looks to see if there is a stronger wireless connection that it can connect to. If you had Windows XP you could shut down the Wireless Zero Configuration but it is integrated into Vista and can't be turned off without turning off your wireless connection. There is a program called Vista Anti Lag, val.exe, which you can run once your wireless is connected which stops Vista from polling for a new connection every 60 seconds.

- Mouse stops working after you click join game button?

It's another bug that happens from time to time, usually if Battlefield creates another profile folder inside "My Documents." Usually it happens when you log in Battlefield with another account, new or old. All you need to do is go to the in-game controls and hit default. Then set up your keys and your mouse is back!

- Vista CTD's and "Cannot Connect to Server"/"Master Server Disconnects"

Seriously, I've heard a lot of people who use Vista and 2142 have barely any problems. But I wonder if most of these problems are just over lapping with a bazillion ways to fix. Anyways:
1. Update Vista, patches, and the hot fixes.
2. Turn off Windows Firewall and the UAC.
Run msconfig and go to tools
Highlight "Disable UAC" and hit apply
3. Update X-Fi sound card driver!

Few things can cause this.
1. If you are using Vista, right click on the Icon and run the game as Administrator.
2. You have some sort of virtual cd drive software running like Alcohol 120%, Daemon Tools or something similar. Turn off the virtual device.

Vista - Punkbuster Issue: Ignoring Queries #9006

Reaper had this problem and I began the quest to fix it. I've found WAY too many solutions to the problems so I condensed into two!

1. Make sure your Anti-Virus/Firewall aren't blocking anything Punkbuster
2. Make sure you're the Admin of you computer, and Battlefield 2142 is running as Admin
3. Update Punkbuster:Update PB http://evenbalance.com/index.php?pag...ort-bf2142.php
4. Restart

If that solution made no impact, here is the Alternative! Yes, update Punkbuster once more!

1. Update PB http://evenbalance.com/index.php?pag...ort-bf2142.php
2. Go-to "My Documents" - "Battlefield 2142" - "Profiles"
3. Move the contents out of the folder, somewhere safe (desktop)
4. Fire up 2142, Enter your Account and Password, close out
5. Go back to "Profiles" and Delete ALL contents
6. Put the old contents back in it
7. Restart Computer and Enjoy!

Thanks for the vista one, I just got my new laptop today which has vista. Also if you end both punkbuster A and B in the processes then manually restart them from the pb folder in the battlefield directory. That sometimes fixes the punkbuster problems, but not always.

I dont know whats wrong punkbuster wont install with battlefield, ive looked in the pb folder in the directory and there are three folders,dll,html, and screenshot. Thats it ive reinstalled three times and it wont install at all. ive done the updates and they work but they dont do anything. If someone knows something plz help. I want to start playing by tommorrow.

Also, check to make sure Windows just isn't blocking it. It's pretty common with any security settings on!!

Very nice azura! I'd also like to add that wireless-N technology somehow seems to override the necessity to have vista anti-lag running. So if you have the bucks to spare to upgrade your wireless system to N, do so.

Well, I am not to sure what to say about it not installing with the game, seeing as you reinstalled multiple times you coudln't have declined by accident. This is my best bet:

Add Battlefield2142 to the list
If it doesn't detect punkbuster it'll install a fresh copy

If that fails, your best bet would be contact Punkbuster Support, but I don't think you'll get too much besides "Reinstall" or what I just wrote above. Good luck!
