So I'm looking in to getting a new machine, and I was wondering if anyone had experience playing 2142 on a Mac Pro (Boot Camp w/ XP installed.) Primarily I'm trying to gauge what if any difference Dual / Quad Cores will mean to my gameplay experience.

I usually play on a Dell 3.6Ghz Xeon w/2GB RAM (my work box) and I'm wondering if playing on a Mac Pro with 2 Duo Core 3.0 Ghz Xeons is going to feel like an upgrade or downgrade.

Thoughts?

I run 2142 on Boot camp on a Mac Pro works fine. I sometimes get blue screens of death though, I think this is to do with video driver and Boot Camp drivers (don't go for a radeon 1800). I think you shouldn't notice the difference between the processors and the pure sexiness of Mac OS will make up for anything you do notice .

I just noticed I put "3.6G" rather than "3.0." Mistake, obviously.

Anyway, thanks, Daith. I got the Pro box, picked up an extra 4G of RAM, 1TB HD, and XP and will installing all of that this week. Then the test drive with 2142 will begin. I'm stoked beyond words.

you should have a look at vmware fusion it's probably the best virtualiser out there at the moment if you want to run any windows only software while booted in mac. It works mostly without flaws, it just doesn't think it has DX installed even though it does so games won't work but thats what's Bootcamp is for.
