Ok when ever I Join a server and press the join button, my mouse and keyboard are completely unresponsive, even though i was JUST able to use them to join the server, etc. The mouse arrow dosint move AT ALL and the only thing i can do on my keyboard is alt+tab, or alt+ctrl+delete, and yet when i do either of thous my mouse and keyboard works just fine on the desktop. So can any one PLZZZZZ help? i really want to be able to play the game again and soon hopefully. Also (this may not have anything to do with it) i have just had the common problem with the 1.4 patch where the game freezes when its halfway done loading a map, i fixed it of course but i am just saying this in case it has any kind of relation to this problom. so anyone help would be GREATTTTTT thanks.

You might try doing a search on this forum for "freeze on map load" or some such term. It sounds like the game is freezing, not your computer (as you can tell by the fact that your input devices work just fine on your desktop). Is your game fully patched? The latest patch is 1.4. If that's not the problem, let us know what operating system version you're running (Windows 2000/XP/Vista/etc.). That will help.

Ok im on windows XP and on the 1.4 patch and I did search but the game itself isint frozen, the game is working perfectly well in the background when i join, planes are buzzing around, flying by the screen, tanks are blasting each other, tracers are flying, people are calling out enemies, etc. All im saying is that the game just simply isint recognizing my mouse and (most) keyboard commands! No matter how much i throw my mouse around or smack the Esc key NOTHING HAPPENS!! the mouse stays perfectly still, and i can't even type to other players for help and it -->ONLY<-- dose this AFTER the map loads and i press the join button and it loads the re-spawn screen. THAT is my exact problem.

This is an odd problem, I never heard of.

Is your keyboard / mouse wireless?

Some ideas (Test the game at each step in sequence):

1. Disable Anti-Virus, FireWall, IM, and anything that you do not need when playing the game.
2. Do a BF2142 cleanup. Look at the other posts here (Azura posts) Delete the "cache", delete the radial.cdb, defrag etc.
3. Re-install DX
4. Re-install 1.40 patch
5. Re-install game

Post troubleshouting results here.

I had the same problem and if I recall I deleted my caches in my profile and it cleared it up.

ok and how do i delete the caches? im not very good when it comes to fixing anything lol.

In your "My Documents" and open the 2142 folder, then mods, then bf2142, and finally open cache...delete everything in that folder.

You'll need to optimize next time you load a map.

Hmmm...try getting the newest drivers for your mouse or keyboard...

Also, try playing single player, and turn all your setting (video and audio) to the lowest possible and see if it continues.

Delete your local profile (NOT your soldier) and let the game recreate it. You can find you profile in the "My Docs\Battlefield 2142\Profiles" directory. You may see more than one, it depends on the amount of soldiers you have. When you delete the files, you'll have to go through and remap any custom keys, mouse settings etc. Most annoying is when you rejoin a server and have to optimize shaders all over again.

It's another bug that happens from time to time, usually if Battlefield creates another profile folder inside "My Documents." Usually it happens when you log in Battlefield with another account, new or old. All you need to do is go to the in-game controls and hit default. Then set up your keys and your mouse is back!
