Yet another Mic problem...

Hey guys,

I have been having an intermittent problem with my mic cooperating with both VOIP and TS. I can load into the game, load up a map and play a few rounds with everything working perfectly, and then randomly, I lose the ability to use both VOIP and TS. There doesnt seem to be any corelation between the map and this problem as it has happened on all of them. None of the settings have changed and the only way to fix it is to exit the game. As soon as that happens, TS magically works like its supposed to. I did some searching here, and it seems that others have had similar problems, but nothing exactly like this.

FWIW, Im using an X-Fi Platinum, mic plugged into the back PCI card via a mini jack.

Re: Yet another Mic problem...

I use a Sound Blaster Audiology card with mic plugged into computer by a usb plug. I have similar situation where TS becomes crackly to those listening to me and often can not be heard. I generally have best results for TS clarity by opening TS after BF2142 starts. Doesn't always work but seems to work more often than not. I have had to go to my sound profile before, and unmute mic which tends to help (obviously). For some reason the mic mutes itself during BF2142 but not any other game.

Mini-jack? Is that the same as line-in in my language if it is plug it out and plug it back in again. If it isn't, my level of expertise should be thrown out the window.

"Mini" refers to the 1/8th inch plug on the end of the wire.

Re: Yet another Mic problem...

Wood, I have a SB XtremeGamer Fatal1ty and had the same issue with my mic and the mic line on the back of the card. I finally went to the mic port on the motherboard and everything works great. Never was able to make it work right using the SB card.

Re: Yet another Mic problem...

I had issues with TS and VoIP working properly when I first started, as well. Turns out my sound card was the problem. It's a nice sound card, but I ended up having to buy a headset with a USB adapter and run my sound through that. I haven't had problems with it since.

For the record, I was using RealTek, which, while cool, will not allow TS and VoIP to run at the same time.

Thanks for that tip rage4order I hadn't thought of that. I've got the Realtek drivers installed (EVGA 680i mobo) but I've been trying to get my mike working on an Audigy2 card with the modded-for-Vista drivers. Not much luck either cheers for that heads-up!
