"unmodified content error" (yes I searched)

Ok, I'm getting the "you must revert back to the unmodified content" error. I did a reinstall of my OS the other day and finally got a RAID set up I've been installing things for days and can't get BF2142 to work. Here's what I've done so far.....

First install:
From EA downloader I installed the game, then the 1.4 patch from EA, then NS, then the 1.4 patch again. I got the unmodified content error.

Second install:
Installed game, then 1.2 patch, then NS, then 1.4 patch from EA, updated with Punkbuster. Game CTD'd as soon as I clicked on "multiplay" and the servers started loading. It kept doing this also.

Third install:
Installed game, then 1.4 patch from site other than EA, installed NS, installed 1.4 patch from site other than EA, updated with Punkbuster. Still getting unmodified content error.

I can't figure it out. Anyone have any ideas? I've checked the tweak guide and tried everything on there. I've checked all kinds of other things people have done and I just can't get it to run. Help me please, I beg you!!! lol

I'm off to work, I'll try everything when I get home tonight.

Well you have done what usually takes care of the problem which is re-installing the patch after NS. I would try just installing the game and 1.4 patch without NS and see if the error comes up. If not then install NS and repatch and see what happens.

I've been bitten by this bug more than a few times. As Rage suggested, try installing the basic 2142 install with the 1.4 patch and see what that does for you. If you still have issues, uninstall and delete all directories left behind (in My Docs, Program Files, etc). See if that works. If it does, install NS, then reapply the 1.4 patch.

Re: "unmodified content error" (yes I searched)

Bare with me for one moment. The error you see is related to only a few instances:A corrupted install, a corrupted patching process, a "NO CD" patch installed(which you shouldn't be using due to it being a download version). I would like you to follow my steps for removal very specifically (below) reboot after uninstallation, and then reinstall in the following order:Install main game, install patch 1.4, install NS, install patch 1.4 again. Reboot machine before attempting to play, make sure you turn off your antivirus and firewall. Don't update PB yet, if it's the problem it will give a different error. Let me know the status.

To delete the configuration files and local copy of your account:

Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar.
Select My Documents.
Right-click the Battlefield 2142 folder and select Delete.
To delete the game files (in the default location):

Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar.
Select My Computer.
Double-click the C:drive.
Double-click the Program Files folder.
Double-click the EA GAMES folder.
Right-click the Battlefield 2142 folder and select Delete.
Go to the following folder: C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (If you cannot find this folder you may have to go to Tools > Folder Settings and click the setting to SHOW hidden folders.)
Right-click the folder named {ED50ECE9-EC54-4C05-B5ED-EE4741A9F2EC} and select Delete.
Close all open windows.
Right-click the Recycle Bin and select Empty Recycle Bin.
To edit the registry and remove Battlefield 2142:

Click the Start button on the Windows Taskbar.
Select Run.
Type regedit in the text field and click OK.
Click File and select Export.
Name the file Backup and make sure the Export Range is set to All.
Click Save; you will now be returned to the Registry Editor window.
Click the plus (+) sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
Click the plus (+) sign next to Software.
Click the plus (+) sign next to EA GAMES.
Right-click the Battlefield 2142 folder and select Delete.
Back under Software, click the plus (+) sign next to Electronic Arts.
Click the plus (+) sign next to EA GAMES.
Right-click the Battlefield 2142 folder and select Delete.
Just above EA GAMES, you will see a folder named EA CORE. Click the plus (+) sign next to EA CORE.
Click the plus (+) sign next to INSTALLED GAMES.
Click the plus (+) sign next to EA GAMES.
Right-click and select Delete on any Battlefield 2142 folders.
Click the plus (+) sign next to Microsoft.
Click the plus (+) sign next to Windows.
Click the plus (+) sign next to CurrentVersion.
Click the plus (+) sign next to Uninstall.
Right-click the key named {ED50ECE9-EC54-4C05-B5ED-EE4741A9F2EC} and select Delete.
A Confirm Key Delete window will appear, choose Yes.
Close the WindowsRegistry Editor.
Battlefield 2142 should now be completely removed from your system.

Re: "unmodified content error" (yes I searched)

nice one G,
Unmodified content bugs are usually the cause of a file getting currupt during installation. Manually uninstalling the game will get rid of the corrupt file so that when you install it again it will create a brand new working one
