Recently I've been experiencing more and more crashes. I do not know what causes these crashes, but when I'm in fullscreen mode I get stuck in game and can't alt+tab, alt+f4, or ctrl+alt+del out of bf2142. Last night I tried playing in windowed mode, and I've yet to experience a crash (only played 3 rounds though). I have to reboot my comp in order to do anything after one of these crashes.

Comp specs:

Windows XP Pro SP2
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.67 GHz
2.00 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS video card
Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card

It seems to be completely random, the last time it happened, I was about to drop a medpack for my squad leader and comp crashed. Another time I was flying a gunship and my gunner says on voice "pilots like you always scare me with your flying, always think I'm gonna die!"..... then comp crashed so he most likely died... oh the irony. Another time I was SL and I was cloaking behind enemy lines on Fall of Berlin, told my squad to spawn in, and I crashed. I can't pinpoint what exactly causes it to happen =(.

If you need any more info, lemme know. I don't even know what this problem could be stemming from. =(



EDIT: Just had it crash in windowed mode, but at least I was able to c+a+d and end the processes.

EDIT: Rejoined the game I was in, and crashed within 2 minutes of getting into the game. It's never been this bad before....

EDIT AGAIN: Now I'm getting a Punkbuster communications error, something about like pnkbuster.fab and a Service Communication error? Punkbuster isn't kicking me off because I'm using windowed mode, is it? I've never seen this come up before, and the only thing I've changed recently was I set +fullscreen from 1 to 0.....

Got the screenshot off this time, it says:
"PB IMPORTANT: RESTRICTION: Service Communication Failure: PnkBstrB.exe driver failure (PnkBstrK.sys) ffab"

Its probably that punkbuster is conflicting with some background process. My guess anyways.

Negative on the interference, ALL processes are closed except for the system processes, PnkBstrA.exe, PnkBstrB.exe and the BF2142.exe (along with it's ~e5.0001 Cleanup process)

Well, I looked into it. So far a problem sounds like Punkbuster so we'll start with that.

1. Download a fresh copy of Punkbuster, and MANUALLY install it.

2. Check your firewall that isn't being blocked and the process is running

3. Update it again with this:

I feel nub.

Uninstalled Punkbuster, rebooted, reinstalled manually, everything works fine......

I'm a computer science major, you would hope I'd be the one to think of trying that.....

Haha! Nah, battlefield is just crazy, sometimes I feel like I'm putting the disc upside down in my drive everytime I play

One thing to note, the biggest problem with battlefield isn't the problems but the "why" they happen. They are all just sporatic and they seem to randomly happen. I mean half the people I know were affected with the "Radial" file, the others will one day!
