2142 no dvd guide

I was unfortunate enough to buy 2142 on dvd, and not from the ea downloader. I've since always had to have the dvd in the drive while playing. Really foolish of EA when you can't play online without a key anyway.

But since i've searched and tried lots of solutions but have now found one that actually works for me. Here goes:

1. Download and install daemon-tools from http://www.daemon-tools.cc. 3 mb download.
2. Make an image of your 2142 dvd with the program blindwrite, no special settings. You'll end up with a 3.3 gb image.
3. Next involves moving drives around. My hard-drive has two partitions C: and D:.
4. I've moved my physical drive to G: to make room for two image-drives, one for 2142 and one for BF2.
5. In daemon-tools mount the 2142 maxi-image as E:.
6. Set everything to automount and autostart at next boot and PLAY! You don't need to enable any special emulations in DT.

Now you can play 2142 and use your physical drive as normal as well.

For BF2 as well:

1. Download and mount BF2 mini-image #3 from www.gamecopyworld.com in a virtual drive. 20 mb download.
2. Mount the image after the 2142 drive to avoid problems. My BF2 mini-image is mounted as F:

And it all works!

The bigggest obstacle is making the Blindwrite maxi-image, but once that is done it's all good!

Hope this helps someone.

Virtual CD (still cant post links, but Google it) is a very easy programme to use. Costs 40 euro/ Dollars, but just put your disc in, copy to your choice of folder, and then virtually place it in your drive when you want to game. Just click on DVD drive and add your game disc to it.

Costs, but a bit easier to use.

The copy protection of 2142 does not copy well. I tried those same exact steps about a year ago and could not get the CD to copy correctly. Perhaps an update to blindwrite took care of it.

Please note that MANY games will not run if you have daemon tools or another virtual CD drive running in the background.

Yeah, be very careful when using these... I had a virtual disk for BF2 on my PC and the copy protection from WiC detected this- bam, there goes my PC. (The copy protection for WiC is SecuROM)

So, yeah, watch out when using these. I don't find it much hassle to switch disks as I generally play the same game for a long time, rather than changing which game I play often.

Re: 2142 no dvd guide

I was using a no-dvd crack until the last patch. I haven't been able to find a new one though.

Re: 2142 no dvd guide

Other than switching disks is there a performance advantage to this or is it negligible?
