VOIP Help Please

Well, I searched a couple of times in the Battlefield 2142 section of the forums but I couldn't find anything on a question I have so I'm deciding to post it. My question is, what are some good settings for my mic in BF2142? I just recently got a new headset with a mic (it was only like $20 so it's not that good) and I'm not really sure what some good settings would be for the threshold and stuff like that. I don't want my mic to pick up all of the sounds in my living room (which isn't really anything except some people speaking once in a while) or be to loud for those listening (I've had experience in this, when people practically scream into their mic). When I did my BF2142 Voice Setup and read aloud the things I was suppose to read, I found that a lot of words or letters were being cut out or muffled. So I lowered the threshold and I could hear myself clearly without anything being muffled or cut out. The problem was that I could hear a bit of static like sound and many of the sounds around me were being picked up as well (like when I tapped the space bar on my key board). While I play on this communities server (the greatest server by the way ) I noticed a lot of the TG's playing had a good VOIP setup. I could hear them clearly and I didn't hear any of their background sounds (if they had any...). Maybe a TG member could help an old "newb" like me out and give me some advice or help on this matter if at all possible.

Re: VOIP Help Please

Its probably the mic. I got a 40 buck one (at least I think it was 40) that cancels out ambient sound.I lurve it.I think the only think you can do, other than getting a swankier mic, is turn down the sensitivity and talk louder. You may need to tinker with the threshold options, but it'll come to you. Or you could hit the keys softer :P

Re: VOIP Help Please

create a squad and have another mic user in the squad and lock it
then tune your settings and ask for feedback, rinse and repeat
I find 80% on send and same on receive is good

EDIT
another factor is to have a standard place to have your mic, I have my low by my chin, some have it by their mouth or others higher by their nose

EDIT
if the keyboard tapping is being picked up then that suggests the mic is unmuted, which is unusal because 2142 mnutes the mic when map loads

Huh... well I kind of get what all of you are saying. I'll just have to try things out with a buddy to find the best settings I guess. :/
