battlefield 2142 starts up but goes blank and is non responsive

i just bought battlefield 2142. i have a gefrorce 8600 running windows xp and when the game starts the screen goes black, then when i check my processes it shows (not responding). i have updated all of my drivers and unistalled battlefield then reinstalled but it is still doing the same thing

Important: First of all make sure your computers default refresh rate is at 60hz, also disable any programs that may change your Refresh Rate. That is just to get us started....

-You can change your refresh rate once the game is working properly, then adjust your computers to match it

Second: Update your drivers via Nvidia

Third: Delete all folders via: \Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\Battlefield 2142\Profiles

Forth: Don't forget to patch battlefield if you haven't done so already!

On the left is a panel with info on the latest patch.

NOTICE: Current patch is 1.41 if by some small chance 1.5 is released in the next few hours, skip it, for now. 1.5 is a pending beta, you want the 1.41 final release patch.

I hope you still did the above and didn't just skip to the patch. The reason why I listed the patch is because you said you JUST purchased the game. That won't save your black screen, just a convenience!

I am getting the same problem, except I have had the game for ages. I followed all the fixes here, made sure I had latest drivers still, and it still doesn't work.

Uninstall, delete all remnant folders in my docs and program files (if you're savvy you can make sure the registry is clean as well), reboot and reinstall. Reinstall order is BF2142 --> Patch --> NS (optional) --> Repatch (if you installed NS).

If you suspect video drivers, I would suggest reinstalling them prior to reinstalling BF2142.

I did that immediatly, but it didn't work. Then I ended almost all background programs and the game worked fine for a day. Now the problem is back.

I had the stick on blackscreen on load (even before the movies) and it was my firewall refusing 2142 conections to the internet
