    Question BF2142 NS download and install questions...

    So I want to get Northern Strike. I understand that the only real way for me to get it is from EA digital outlet. What I don't understand is how is the file saved to my hard drive? Can I make a physical backup of the file? Is it true that I have to log in to EA's Download service every time that I want to play an NS map? Finally how easy is it to transfer NS to a new computer if I choose to upgrade my PC?

    When downloaded, the NS installer is stored in the cache. You can back that file up and use it to install as needed, that's what I do. Moving it to another computer shouldn't be difficult at all and I believe the initial install file is fairly small.

    EDIT: So after a full reinstall I finally got NS to work... I understood enough that in order to get NS to work you have to install patch to 1.4 install NS and then re-patch. So I thought okay simple and easy, I'm already running 1.4 so I just need to install NS then re-patch. Yeah then BF decided to be a pain.

    When I went to run the patch after installing NS my computer said I was already using a newer version, and refused to work. As it turns out because I had both 1.4 and the 1.5 beta installed at the same time it refused to rerun the 1.4 patch to correct NS. So I had to uninstall everything, clean out the registry, then install, patch to 1.4, install NS, then again patch 1.4. The good news is that after an hour or two of 'computer fun' I am glad to say that Northern Strike is finally working...

    if you are running XP as I am, the NS download should be:

    HDD/ Program Data/ Electronic Arts/ EADM/ cache/ Cache Number {2250347875}/ bf2142_bp1

    That's the default download path I am pretty sure.

    I would guess the registry had 1.5 as your patch level rather than 1.4.

    That was my thought as well, that is actually why I did the reinstall. I don't know to much about the registry so I didn't know how it would react if I only removed the 1.5 info and tried to force 1.4 to install, so I figured the sure fire way to fix it is a reinstall.

    I've done a bit a trouble shooting support over at the EA forums (ie trying to help people out where I could) and the fact is 2142 always seems to run better after a fresh install. It fixes almost 90% of your issues. It stinks having to do it, but it works.

    Also thanks for relocating this thread into the tech support section. At first I thought this was going to be a few quick questions, I never imagined it becoming a debug issue...

    I'm thinking to buy NS using EA Store, but I live in Brazil, and a friend of mine tried to buy using his international credit card, but he got an error message in the end of the process. Do you have an idea the reason, plz?

    Daniel, unless one of our TG brothers from Europe can answer your question I suspect you will have to ask EA Support about that one.

    I don’t know the reason really no one but EA would be if his address did not match the CC address that would cause it. Also for some CC's you need to have the business call the CC Company for verification that the charge can go through. Some companies require the name on a CC to match the name on the account for international charges.

    This is the address to the EA support site log in, go there and post about your problem they can track the problem usually and tell you what happened and how to fix it. Don’t post your whole CC number but do make sure you post the last 4 and the company that issued it.

    I would call the credit card company first.

    I work retail, when a credit card is declined we don't get told why it was declined only that it was. EA may be able to tell you about a known issue or that you forgot to click a check box or something, but they can not tell you why the card was declined unless they are the ones who declined it. From experience 99.999% of the time it is the credit card company that decides if the transaction can take place, not the retail outlet.

    Also when I ordered NS last night they did say that they accept PayPal so you may be able to try a diffrent form of payment versus just an international credit card.

    My best guess it that the card company saw a Brazilian card trying to be used in the US so they refused the charge thinking it to be an fake or otherwise unauthorized transaction. Another popular problem, like Thesleeper01 said, if the address given at time of purchase does not match the address on the card the the card will be declined.

    hello, guys! sorry the delay...

    Unfortunatelly, I could not buy my expansion pack. I tryied with my CC, nothing... I joined on Pay Pal successfully, but noting on EA games... a friend of mine tryied with his Pay Pal and gues what! nothing... :'(

    will I have to buy the Deluxe Edition to finally can play NS? omg...

    The problem is: here in brazil it is about U$ 60,00!!! :@
