Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
You may want to post this as a new thread since it's a completely different issue. As opposed to hijacking mine anyway. :P

Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
Thanks, changing the registry worked for me and it was very simple! Works 100% now thanks, I read all sorts of junk on the web and the guide here is the solution!

1. Go to the start menu and select "Run".
2. In The Box that pops up type "regedit".
3. This has opened the registry. Don't ask what it is, because it's kinda complex.
4. If you need to make a back up select "File" and then the 2nd option named "Export". Select where you want the backup and then save it.
5. Over on the left is a frame with all the registry "Folders" for lack of a better word. The third(or so) one should be "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE". Next to it , on the left, is a plus sign. Click on it to expand it.
6. Click the plus (+) sign next to "Software".
7. Click the plus (+) sign next to "Electronic Arts".
8. Click the plus (+) sign next to "EA GAMES". Yes, it is in capitals.
9. Click the plus (+) sign next to "Battlefield 2142".
10. Find the registry key(entry) called Version.
11. Right click on it and select "Modify".
12. Modify it to 1.10
13. Exit the registry editor.
14. Install the latest official patch.
15. Try to join the server again.

Thank you Oneil for this solution!
My case:
I have the BF2142 installed by DVD and the latest patch 1.50, working fine for +2 years.
Tonight, I purchased NS from EA store and installed by EA Download Manager.
Patched again with 1.50 (the big one with ~512MB).
Vanilla maps works but NS maps give me "Unmodified Content".
Tried all pathes, 1.25, 1.40, 1.50, but no luck.
Worked when I did this:
1-> Oneil registry (version change to 1.10)
2-> Update with the 1.50 patch (the big one)
NS now works!
So, the solution for NS is:
1> Install BF2142 (only if new installation, not required if you have BF2142 and you want to install NS)
2> Install 1.50 (same as above, if you have it allready, skip this)
3> Install NS
4> Registry change
5> Install 1.50 again
Thanks Oneil!

That's what worked for me and has kept working the entire time. I'm glad you found it useful.

Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
I keep getting this error randomly. It happens on different maps, one map will work fine and then the next time it comes up I'll get the error. So far I've tried the reg edit, then a uninstall, reinstall and reg edit again. Still no luck.

Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
Another source for this error* did my girlfriend figure out accidentally.
She installed Battlefield in the same folder with other content on her disk. If you install BF allways give it it's own folder (subfolder is ok too!) and don't put other files in it!

This solution makes no sense. I'm not bashing, but in may of the cases here at TG they are installed in a dedicated folder. In fact, I have mine installed on a separate hard drive.
What would really help is some help from EA on the subject as to WHY this happens. If that would happen I'm sure we could shut this issue down. Lol, help from EA.....right.....

Sorry, but I don't understand why you are complaining. It's simply a remark that adds another case to this thread when the error occurs. Maybe it helps someone to understand why he got the error (for example my girlfriend )

Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
Finally! The regedit version change worked. Thanks. Note - I first tried MOVING the bf2142 folder from my documents to the desktop so I wouldn't lose all of my settings, key bindings etc. That didn't fix NS. Then I just moved the bf2142 folder back into my documents to restore all my settings. Then I did regedit/ repatch and it worked.
BUT It still crashes when I click some of the awards and I can't unlock anything. Moving to that thread... How many things do I have to do to run this darn thing???

Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
I just saw your other post, but I don't know about the unlock problem so I'll post here about the medals causing a crash. I would advise reinstalling and all of the patching. I know you said you already used the registry edit, did you just edit the version and install / patch? As Oniell said in the first post of this thread, if it doesn't work then move onto the next option and uninstall, delete all mentions of BF2142 in the registry, and then install again.
As for patching, if your going through all of that I would advise redownloading the patches as I've had a corrupt one once. Also I think there might've been something about the v1.5 patch missing something...so install v1.4 -> NS -> v1.4 again -> incremental v1.4 to v1.5
Just move the BF2142 folder first, like you did before, to keep the settings. If a full uninstall, registry delete, and reinstall with fresh patches doesn't work then I don't know what will XD but it should...and might help with the unlock problem. Hope this helps.

Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
The regedit and then reinstall 1.50 worked like a champ. Glad I tried these in order, instead of reinstalling from scratch. Thanks!

Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
That's the best way. Going extreme first can just take forever and not actually do anything. There is a reason I wrote in the order I did...

Re: Unmodified Content Error Solution Guide
Sadly, nothing in this thread worked for me. What a pain in the butt.
I fixed it by doing the following!
complete uninstall of 2142 as per directions in first post.
install 2142
install 1.4 patch
install NS
install 1.4 patch
install 1.5 incremental patch.
then I defragged and then started the game for the first time. No problem since.
