Macintosh?
Does anyone play the game on a Mac? What model? Would a Mac Pro with Xeon processors be able to emulate windows and play the game?
Thanks

Re: Macintosh?
I run a 20'' iMac with dual-core processors. I have partitioned my HD so that I can run both Windows XP and Mac OS X 10.5. I play the Mac version of the game... which is exactly the same as the PC version, except 10 dollars more expensive. On the other hand, it crashes far less often.
It's your choice, really. Both versions are identical, its just a question of which platform you want to run it on.

Re: Macintosh?
I play 2142 on my aging PC but I'm tempted to see how it runs on my iMac running either XP (Boot Camp) or OSX (10.5.3).

Re: Macintosh?
If you have the Mac, you might as well run it natively.

Re: Macintosh?
Thanks for the feedback. I didn't even know it had a Mac version. What about other games? What is the emulation like? I saw a Power Mac with 4 Xeon processors and I couldn't help but wonder how the game would run in that with the emulation or whatever would be necessary but last I heard Macs were rocking dual boots with great ease.

Re: Macintosh?
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. played flawlessly using Boot Camp so I'd imagine 2142 would as well.
The reason why I would play 2142 under XP on the iMac is simple: I own it already.

Re: Macintosh?
Lol. Good point. Well, then, by all means do so. Oh, and there's no TeamSpeak client for 10.5 yet... which saddens me. I hope the IHS I'm trying to join won't... er... reject me because I don't have TS.

Re: Macintosh?
TeamSpeex works to a degree. It's not the most eloquent solution, but you can connect to a server and chat. I'm not sure how well it works or doesn't work while gaming.

Re: Macintosh?
I run Mac version on my Imac worked fine till patch 1.5 came along now only about 4-5 servers left to play online as others have moved to 1.5 and it's not available for mac yet.
Teamspeex works ok, but is a little fiddely --
Emulation wise you shouldn't have bother with a Pro running bootcamp
Having said that I've gone the other route and bought pc to play games on while my mac will do all my audio / video / work type stuffCapt.Magenta: "I have Captain Scarlet on the Interspace Radio Link, sir!"

Re: Macintosh?
Yeah, I partitioned my drive for the same reason... There's way too many games that are PC only. So I have soiled my computer with Windows XP just so I could play them. *sigh*

Re: Macintosh?
Hey guys. I've been playing in Bootcamped Vista on my MacBook Pro since I got it. I'm really getting tired of restarting my computer and loading Windows.. especially if I just want to get a quick game in and not make a night of it.
I don't want to pay $40 for a game that I already have, but I've kind of gotten past that. The reason I haven't gone for it yet is all of the hit or miss reviews that I've heard for performance. My graphics are great in Vista. I run most settings on medium, and I've used 1440 x whatever and 1280 x whatever resolutions with good results. How is performance for you guys? My specs are MBP running Leopard, 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM, GeForce 8600M GT 128 MB. Do you think I should go for it??
Are there any other quirks running the Mac version? Does TeamSpeex work well while the game is running? Do you do Windowed or full screen mode?
Thanks guys. I'll probably base my decision on what you think."This is a weapon of terror; it's made to intimidate the enemy. This is a weapon of war; it's made to kill your enemy."

Re: Macintosh?
I'm another one of the mac clan. I also opted for the bootcamp/XP combo due to the mixed reviews of the mac one. I use my relatively new macbook pro (2.4 duel core, 2gb ram, NVIDIA GeForce 256 MB). I can hit the high setting but have recently lowered a few to medium following a useful link on this site.
One issue with the mac version of the game; I have a feeling it can't be downloaded?
P.s: We should ACTUALLY have mac a mac clan. Or at least have a MAC's vs PC's battle some time!

Re: Macintosh?
I wish I could have sprung for the 256 MB graphics card when I bought it last October. But, that's nice that it now comes standard with the current base models. No, I don't think that it can be downloaded, but I wouldn't do that anyway. But, I've been looking online and is there even a store where you can physically buy it instead of having to buy online and have it shipped? My local Best Buy doesn't have it in stock.
lol, that would be interesting, but I don't think there are very many people around here that play on a Mac. From what I gather, I think it's around 6 or 7 max. At least, that's who I've seen post on the topic, and well, you know, we Mac users are pretty pretentious and like to point out that we have a Mac
