2142 and X-Fi Sound Cards
I recently purchased the Sound Blaster Fatal1ty Xtreme Gamer
Since ive been using it i've been consistently crashing to the desktop.
And I've read about the conflicts between the hardware and software.
I did a fresh driver install and have been using the latest beta drivers.
Anyone have similar problems?

I use an x-fi card it's not the fata1ty, but it was a higher end card and I don't have any problems with mine....sorry.
I'm also running a pretty stock machine and XP, don't know what OS you are using.A captain of the most awesome IHS ever and remember to burn before you pillage.

Re: 2142 and X-Fi Sound Cards
I have a supreme combination of failure likelihood - Vista ultimate and x-fi. But I haven't had any problems yet, so not sure if your problem is due to the soundcard or some other random windows act.

Need more information like Catman outlined. Also, if you know how to, post the errors from the Event Log.

Re: 2142 and X-Fi Sound Cards
Back before my last reformat, I had similar issues with my X-Fi and the game. It was due to the drivers I was using, and I can't remember the date, but the ones I'm using now are very old, probably Fall 2006 if I remember correctly. Any other drivers I tried would give me errors and not allow me to select Ultra-High or other things.
Also, the original time I built this PC, I had many issues with Windows Stop errors due to the drivers being either corrupt or not installing correctly.

Re: 2142 and X-Fi Sound Cards
I just got myself Creative SoundBlaster X-FI TITANIUM and I am running it without any problems on WinXP SP3.
My drivers disc was stamped in April 2008, if yours is older PM me if you want the newer version (Creative support website is a nightmare when it comes to finding drivers).

Re: 2142 and X-Fi Sound Cards
O,o I never thought my crashes could be sound card related. It doesn't as much anymore, but I used to CTD all the time. I have the same sound card. Hmm...

Re: 2142 and X-Fi Sound Cards
You must set the X-Fi to game mode to get ultra-high to work.
