Vista update breaks PunkBuster [solved]
Yesterday (2008-08-14), Vista informed me that it had a ton of security updates to install (feh, what's new?). Having installed them and gone through the restart process, I had the most interesting experience. After about ten minutes of playing Battlefield 2142, I got kicked back to the menu with 'PUNKBUSTER' emblazoned across the screen.
I found that this would happen every time that I played. I could play for maybe five or ten minutes and then I would get kicked.
As has always been the case with PunkBuster issues for me, I found that a complete uninstall and reinstall of BF2142 fixed this for me. I tried a multitude of other methods and nothing short of a total uninstall of Battlefield 2142 AND PunkBuster, followed by installing BF2142 (including the 1.5 patch) and PBSetup would fix the issue.
I thought I would post this in case anybody else was suffering the same problem.
It's worth noting that I use the downloadable version available through EA Store and not a physical, boxed copy. I'm not sure if this makes any difference but I do know that I don't have to install the NS pack separately.
Edit :- I forgot to mention, I use the 32-bit version of Vista. I wish I'd know that it couldn't address 4Gb of RAM before I went that route. Oh well.Last edited by DrProctor; 08-15-2008 at 08:31 AM. Reason: Added Vista version note

PB setup is gold and has always solved similar problems for me. I've never had to uninstall though.

I have the same problem, first I thought it was Patch 1.5, but as you wrote Vista update, I remembered, that MS updated my OS a couple of days ago and since then, I get the Punkbuster Error message. Hopefully, they will bring out a solution to that problem soon.

...I forgot... PB update did not solve the problem!

Did you do all of the steps that I mentioned? Completely uninstall both BF2142 and PunkBuster. Then install BF2142 from scratch. Then run PBSetup.
