Ok, so this is an interesting one.

My Battlefield 2142 has worked for the past 1 and a half months on a new machine I built. Actually, it was working awesome because I tried to put mid to high-end hardware in it. But this morning when I launched the game, something went terribly wrong. The game launched to the log-on screen. Then as I clicked the Log-In button, the game froze and I had to CTRL+ALT+DEL. It said BF2142 was Not Responding, so I ended BF2142. I had also been on Teamspeak, and I lost connection to that. I figured that the internet had just gone out for a sec, so I turned everything off, computer, router, modem, then turned everything back on. The internet came back up.

Then, I tried launching BF2142 again. This time, the launcher window loaded with the big picture of the walker. Then it went to a black screen, then the monitor turned off and on, as if it were changing resolution, then another black screen for 2 seconds, then the monitor turned off and on again, then it stayed a black screen. I would also lose internet connection, which I knew I had lost because Teamspeak would disconnect. I had to CTRL+ALT+DEL to end BF2142, which was not responding. Then the internet came back up after 20-30 seconds. This was the way it went every subsequent time I tried to launch BF2142.

So I uninstalled, reinstalled, and repatched. Same story. Then I system restored to a week back, then uninstalled, reinstalled, and repatched. Still nothing. I kept repeating the last process over and over, restoring to earlier and earlier times. Then, at Smachin's suggestion, I installed the latest NVIDIA driver for my graphics card, which actually worked. BF2142 launched, without patches, still doing the double resolution change which it never used to do, but got to the log-in screen, and ultimateley to the main screen I see before I join a server. I also did not lose internet connection. I thought this had fixed it, so I closed BF2142 to patch, patched, launched it again, and same problem, it went to black screen and I had to end it, and I lost internet connection. I'm about to smash my machine, and just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions. Thankyou!
