I watch the startup in Process Explorer. I can see how the executables start and then die. There is another tool 'process monitor' that shows the registry entries and files accessed. I couldn't tell the problem from that, but maybe it helps.

Revisiting this issue as I still can't log in. Marstein, you said create a new log in in user management - where is the user management found? Is it that verbage in Vista?

Right-click on Computer, Manage, System Tools, Local Users and Groups, Users, right-click in the list of users: New User... and create a new superuser (Member of Administrators).
Then you have to run and log in to the EA launcher and the game.
That works for me right now. I made the new account very basic, it uses no Aero and I don't start tray programs.

Using Vista. At System Tools, to the right is Computer Management (Locals Users), underneath is More Actions, nowhere is there a New User option in any of the tabs. What am I missing?

I would suggest that you right click in your start button click the"explore" button then go to your 2142 folder i.e. -- C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142and double click the 2142 application file.

If you are a no go on that, then it may be a activation key issue and you may just want to re-install.

Well here is the solution, since this happens to me almost everytime I try to play 2142 (this assumes you got it off EA Downloader).

Open your EA Downloader (or whatever its called now)
Go to your install directery and set BF2142Launcher.exe and BF2142PACE.exe to "Windows 2000 Compatibility"
Delete the key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PACE Anti-Piracy and delete the key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\PACE Anti-Piracy from your registry. Then delete the folder C:\ProgramFiles\Common Files\PACE Anti-Piracy.
Run the BF2142Launcher.exe
If the game starts, close it, set BF2142PACE.exe back to normal compatibility. Then just run the game using that exe.

Fixed.

Another thing to check: screen refresh rate. If you have a LCD and the refresh is set to 59 Hz then 2124 will not start.

IF your refresh rate is the problem the game will start up and crash right away giving you an error message ("BF2142 as encountered an error"). You can set it to refresh at 59, you just need to edit your video.con files.

This also reminds me if you plan on upgrading your monitor, set your video settings to default (or just your resolution) because it will crash if your monitors very in settings.

I have a seperate issue, but no point starting another thread with the same name..

My 2142 decided last night to not load. It's been fine and nothing was changed. ANyway, I was just getting a black screen and the exe was running.. Nothing happens. So I leave it, come back and now itp's says "Please insert 2142 DVD into drive".. It never leaves the drive, so not sure what thats about. I uninstalled thinking this should solve it, but no. Installs fine, but won't load still. No DVD in drive.. EA said at first to copy the DVD contents to my desktop, install from there and I should never need the DVD to run the game.. If it was that easy, everyone would do it! ANyway, that didn't work, so now they want me to update to XP SP3, which I refuse to do, as this is problematic with my hardware (Wireless), and also to update my graphics card drivers (NVidia 8800 GT). Now how is this going to help? I'm not happy about this, so anyone have any other ideas?

hello, i kno 2142 is dead and all but i cant help it, it just kicks bad company 2's a$$ and now it wont run so im sad. it runs the game goes to black screen (b4 walker) and windows says there is a error, i updated my vid card drivers, and i run windows xp any other suggestions D:

Sorry that I can't help with the problem much but I must ask are you [RAGE] Cyberdemon?
The only thing I can say is that 2142 has problems starting up for me as well sometimes, I try loading it and it takes about 5 times to get it to work. 4/5 times it just says it couldnt verify in time or something, is that what the error says?
