2142 won't start up
Been a month or so since I played. Clicked on my desktop icon and the game does not load. Turned firewall off, still no start up. Any thoughts? Game worked last time I played. Hmmm.....

Can you be a bit more specific?
Does the game to anything? Such as go to a black screen pause for a few then just crash out.
If that is the case, try deleting the 2142 game folder from your My Documents folder. This will reset all of your settings (not you solders), but it might do the trick.

Sorry. Click the icon on my desktop, and nothing. No crashes, black screen, etc. I get the little circle around my mouse pointer that opens then closes. Game seems to want to open then nothing.

Have you tried to start it with the 'autorun' menu (window which pops up when you lay in the cd)?

Happens to me sometimes - I just wait about 15 seconds to see if it starts. I use the autorun menu but sometimes that doesn't work either. Usually takes 3 tries.

I'll have to double check but I believe I installed 2142 via the EA download. Would that make any type of difference?

There was a post around here that described this solution... set the shortcut to run in Windows 2000 compatibility mode. Start up 2142, exit 2142 at the login screen and set the shortcut back to it's original settings. Battlefield 2142 should start right up.

Yep, I forgot how I found out this fixed it, but it works. Just be very sure to disable compatibility mode, as you'll get punkbusted over and over again (like, for a month straight and I couldn't figure it out...)! Originally Posted by DaddyOfThree

I have the same problem. I can see that the process comes up and then dies. I had to create a new user account and there things work....

On the same (Windows Vista) machine. In user management I created a new user, bf, who I now have to log on into to play bf2142. Must be some registry error that the bf2142.exe does not swallow when running under the marstein (Vista) account. Originally Posted by TheFatKidDeath

Are you sure it may just be taking forevor? Sometimes when I have left my comp on for a while, 2142 literally can take up to 3-4 minutes to load up, and during which it just sits there and seemingly does nothing.
Another oddity - often, when I get frustrated, I'll open up something else while waiting, say a my computer window, or press ctrl-alt-del to get to the task manager. The oddity is that the game will almost always decide to launch, just after the new window had opened.
But this is all probably because I haven't reformated this XP machine for almost a year now....

After I closed EA Download Manager the game don't need 3 Minutes to start like before!!
